Australia is for Auctions

The Aftermarket.com event which we have been featuring here is not the only game in town. This past evening local time (Wednesday, November 19) started off with a bang at the Internet Commerce Association Charity Auction. Co-sponsors Fabulous.com and T.R.A.F.F.I.C., joint organizers of the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Down Under event, held a charity event to auction ten premium domain names. The revenue will be donated to the Internet Commerce Association (ICA), a non-profit advocate for the domain name industry.

Fabulous.com, had generously donated domains valued at over $60,000 to the auction. These domains were auctioned without reserves. Rick Latona Auction (www.RickLatona.com) had also donated their expertise and time to manage the charity auction.

Speaking of Rick Latona:

Our good friends at Rick Latona will be hosting their own Live Auction Thursday, November 20th, at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Down Under. Local time for those of you not good with the math will be Wednesday, November 19th, starting at 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

More information can be found by going to: http://www.ricklatona.com/auctions/.

I find it admirable that DT/aftermarket.com would link so prominently to their direct competitor’s competing listings at the same event.

We need more of this kind of “co-opetition” in this industry, don’t we?

  2. wentzco Says:

Well….. I need to express my extreme disappontment in the Aftermarket auction. I did have have one of the names that was in the auction but wasn’t in the auction because it was one that was skipped over.

Of course - there was many glitches/tech problems that no doubt affected the auction results.

Skipping over names and changing the order of names definitely hurt the sellers - including names that sold. A bidder may have not expected a name to be auctioned for another 20 minutes and looked away , had a bathroom break, etc… and came back to see that the name was auctioned off ahead of the “lot line-up” schedule.

I saw names that had higher internet bids that were sold to lower bidders.

I had frequent brower freezes that I assume affected many others who may have been attempting to place bids on names and likely couldn’t. The auctioneer may be saying $1000 when the browser said next bid was $400. Did this affect the selling price and bidder action? I know I had to restart my browser several times and I don’t feel it was problems with my computer.

How is aftermarket going to affectively market the leftover names that were in the live auction but weren’t?

  3. NewAgeWeb Says:

#38 was my name and sold around the time many of the problems started. I really got to wonder if I lost out on other online bids though? It’s hard to please both seller and buyer here, but it might be fair to take any names that sold during the tech issues and let them go to the online auction for the next week… along with those that never got the chance to be sold.

And I hope it is well publicized that those names are up for auction for that period. I feel really bad for the people that didn’t even get their names to the live selling block towards the end. It’s really sad how low many of the bids were, and the tech problems, whether beyond anyone’s control or not, sure didn’t help.
