Aftermarket.com Down Under Auction Catalog Begins

Submit to Digg.com!

November 6th, 2008 by Susan Prosser

GoldCoastSnorkelThe selection and review process for the Aftermarket.comAftermarket.com T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Down Under Auction is in full swing! The amount and quality of domain submissions for this auction are impressive. Based on previous success, Thought Convergence elected to work with the Domain Consultant team in this endeavor.

Killer Sharks, Killer Names, Killer Prices
Snorkeling for Value in the Land Down Under

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Once again Domain Consultant has joined with Aftermarket.comAftermarket.com to offer an exclusive line of high-quality names for auction at the TRAFFIC Down Under conference on the Gold Coast and this time, there’s lots of chum in the water.

We’ve searched high and low to find the very best domains at competitive, even bargain, prices. This time we decided to focus on getting the window dressing AND the right pricing – based on big increases in submissions and inventory quality.

For whatever reason, domain owners were initially hesitant with the last auction, but the apprehension has faded and the result is what promises to be the single best auction inventory we’ve seen to date – the .com.au selections alone are worth the admission.

And unlike the NY auction, which focused on pricing and value, this list promises to achieve the tri-fecta – pricing, value AND window dressing. Also different from previous efforts because we were given even more control; more say over the final listings and it has made a difference.

To their credit, Aftermarket.comAftermarket.com has decided to focus instead on the platform – to build the single best interface and auction system possible. To their benefit, they have succeeded grandly – surpassing all else.

In the end, we feel this marriage of our inventory selections along with Aftermarket.comAftermarket.com’s innovative and intuitive auction platform will create the single best opportunities, both macro and micro, the industry has witnessed.

We will be releasing the auction inventory over the next few days as well as a full Domain Consultant inventory review to follow. Here is a preview.

Cheers mates!

Below is a sampling of the inventory being considered. There will be regular updates of the list as selections are finalized. The full list will be available by November 14th along with Domain Consultant individual analysis and reasoning of selections.

Sorry I couldn’t get you!! Is this final list? OR later you will add more domains in this list.?

Updated: This is only a first, partial list of a few domains that have been selected so far. We will continue to provide updates accordingly. We plan to list an auction catalog of 100 domains for the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Down Under event.

“Once again Domain Consultant has joined with Aftermarket.comAftermarket.com to offer an exclusive line of high-quality names for auction at the TRAFFIC Down Under conference on the Gold Coast and this time, there’s lots of chum in the water.”

You might want to do a rewrite on the last phrase “there’s lots of chum in the water.”

Chum is fish parts, fluids and innards, the unsellable parts of the fish, that fishermen dump into the water to get the “good fish” to bite. Not a good analogy.

Hope this helps. I have about 20 domains submitted and I’d like to see them sell!

  3. uncoolcentral Says:

It *could* be taken to mean, that with the waters well-baited, the big fish (buyers) are gonna come. So maybe not the worst analogy.

  4. smokin35 Says:

Yes, the analogy referred to the waters being well-baited with good domains for the sharks, or buyers.

  5. WhatTheHeck Says:

With Really GOOD domain names, there should be plenty of “bites” and one should NOT have to bait/chum the waters.

  6. bigboy1 Says:

Gee, kind of surprised at the example selection posted. No offense but do domains like Veg.asVeg.as, MyVision.comMyVision.com, and Exhilarating.comExhilarating.com really represent some of the best? I’m aware of other higher-quality domains (with modest reserves) having been already submitted.

  7. MCorp Says:

I hope ‘Aftermarket.comAftermarket.com T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Down Under Auction’ will do much better than others. I have listed only a few of mine

    BODYPOINTE.COMBODYPOINTE.COM
    AEGISPEOPLESUPPORT.COMAEGISPEOPLESUPPORT.COM (www.forbes.comwww.forbes.com/afxnewslimited/feeds/afx/2008/08/04/afx5285756.html)

And .ME domains (suitable for MiddleEast, like .ASIA for Asia): ALAHLI.MEALAHLI.ME ALRAJHIBANK.MEALRAJHIBANK.ME SABB.MESABB.ME SAUDIARAMCO.MESAUDIARAMCO.ME SISCOM.MESISCOM.ME SONATRACH.MESONATRACH.ME

  8. wentzco Says:

Question regarding the 90 day (?) exclusivity agreement – Are names that aren’t accepted into the Down Under auction still subject to that or can we sell those unaccepted names ourselves within that time period?

    thx

  9. smokin35 Says:

I would suggest taking a GOOD look at saws.comsaws.com. That is an amazingly rare, four letter category killer for a HUGE industry. Just think of all the types of ’saws’ from hand on up to diamond. JMHO.

  10. millismon Says:

I have submitted about 200 of my domains and these 3 should be a shoe in.
    AussieCreditReport.ComAussieCreditReport.Com

    AussieCreditReports.ComAussieCreditReports.Com

    AussieHomeRentals.ComAussieHomeRentals.Com

Can’t wait for the final list.Cheerslist.Cheers.

  11. charlie22 Says:

My domains stay at under review. Are anyone else’s domains under review also?
    Thanks!

  12. uncoolcentral Says:

My domains are all still under review too… and if “AussieCreditReport.ComAussieCreditReport.Com” is a “shoe in” then I can retire from my submissions for sure. I agree w/ the questionable nature of the sample domains posted. “saws.comsaws.com”?! (For the burgeoning saw market? Sure. Whatever.) And as far as 90 day exclusivity, if Aftermarket et al don’t make a good faith effort to hold up their end of the agreement, (i.e. they don’t list your domains) you can sell your domains elsewhere, especially if you have a good attorney.

  13. realcostdomains Says:

Ours are under review still also. The past 3 auctions we stayed in pending review. From my experience over the past 15 months is they only select certain sellers and make everyone else watch from the sidelines. They never review our names and sure they won’t this time either. I sell domains elsewhere but Aftermarket is a joke to me at the current time.

  14. smokin35 Says:

“they only select certain sellers and make everyone else watch from the sidelines. They never review our names and sure they won’t this time either.”

EVERY name submitted is reviewed at least twice. Period.

  15. charlie22 Says:

If you send them an email with a question, I have yet to have them answer.

  16. millismon Says:

All my .coms are under review but my other extenions .co.uk .de .net all say pending verification.

  17. cardog2000 Says:

does any one know if nprosystems.comnprosystems.com is legit?

  18. realcostdomains Says:

smokin35 – do you work for DomainTools? If not then you do not know what your talking about and we proved during TRAFFIC NY they were picking handfuls of domains owned by the same person with very little domain values. As I stated we are PENDING REVIEW as usual and sure that will stay that way even until the auction is over.

  19. Traderwaynes Says:

    Hello everyone,
I would like to share my experience with Aftermarket.comAftermarket.com and their auction process for this auction. Also I will share my experience from their previous auctions before they changed their name. I was in Seattle for the 1st auction they did live online in August 2008. As a buyer I attended the auction in person and was quite happy. I purchased several domains priced from $1,600.00 to $6,800.00 at that auction. Since that time I have submitted some domain for auction admission in previous auctions and in this auction.

The previous auctions I never got past under review status, like many people have complained. I figured out I did not make the auctions when the final list would come out and I was not on it. I would suggest that if you can tell people they made it into the auction. You could also change the status on those you know didn’t make it so that they did not have to wait and find out by reading the final list. Also they had problems posting the domain lists on the days they said it would be ready. I think this was due to the volume of domains submitted at each auction. Especially that 1st auction in Aug 2008. This auction in Australia they were only late one day. The 13 names you see were posted on the 7th were just one day later than they said. They also promised updates to this list before the final list came out on the 14th, which I have not seen yet with only 3 days left. Again I imagine this is due to the volume of names they get. After doing this for over a year though, I would think they could be a bit more accurate.

With this auction I submitted 6 domains. I won’t list them here since I am not trying to bring attention to my domains. But for those of you who think yours are a shoe in, here is something to consider. Three of those domains were submitted weeks ago and the status has not changed from Pending Verification. These 3 domains are the ones I bought thru their auction in Aug 08. You would think if any domain had a chance it would be one that already sold once at their auction. I believe they still have a demand.

Now this no change in status kind of worried me. So I looked in their help pages to see what each status meant. There are 8 lot status levels listed. Note they do not list any status called “Under Review” even though that seems to be the most common one they use. Hmmm! The pending verification level says I must verify my names before they will move to the next status “published” which is where they are submitted for an auction. So I wrote an email to their help personnel explaining that the domains were in Domain Capital’s name because they helped finance them. I mentioned that I talked with domain capital and they and I both would like to know what needs to be done to verify these names. After all if they are not submitted to this auction I would like to keep submitting them until they sell. I talked back and forth with a very helpful person there named Tim who assured me I need do nothing further. So their help page says they won’t look at them till they are verified. But Tim says they will look at them and then verify them if they are interested in putting them in the auction. Here is a quote from his email. “We do account for domains that have WHOIS emails which go to third parties and not individuals. Also for any domain selected that has not yet been verified, we will follow accordingly to ensure proper ownership. Everyone will be contacted whether or not their domain(s) have been selected for the catalog.”

Now I like that last line that says they will contact me whether or not my names are selected. So I will look forward to see if I am contacted this time. Meanwhile my status is 3 domains listed in the mysterious “under review” and the other 3 listed as “pending item verification”. I will let everyone know how it turns out. I do still like the aftermarket auction and those that run it. I will continue to try and do business with them in the future. I hope my experience may shed some light for others and also help the aftermarket team know where they may make improvements.

Thanks, and I am sorry for the long posting. My next post will only be a few short lines.

  20. realcostdomains Says:

smokin35 – after TraderWaynes post I rest my case. I have been wasting 18 months here with this site and they never even review my verified names that are submitted weeks in advance to LIVE auctions.

  21. charlie22 Says:

I feel they do not have as good a system as Moniker.

  22. julcsanc Says:

    @ Traderwaynes

You should check which is the email address of those 3 domains pending verification, you should have received an email where you authorize those domains to participate.

I submitted a couple of domains to this auction and some of them was at pending verification too and was because the email in the who is was not my verified email address with DT, I was using private registration so I turn it off and re-try and the verification email was sent to my real email. you may want to check that.

I Hope this can help you

I do not work with Domaintools by the way, my domain are still under review too, I hope they notify all of us if our domains make it or not.

I have sold a couple of domains at the Domain Round Tables Auctions, this is the first time i actually submit a domain to this new aftermarket.comaftermarket.com auction I’ll like to see how good it is.

By the way Susan, I was trying to lower my reserve but the system did not record it and every time I open the domain manager the edit box show some random details and prices which are not the one I filled in. and you haven’t answer my emails yet :(

  23. Traderwaynes Says:

    Hi julcsanc,
The emails for the pending verification will go to Domain Capital not me. That is why I contacted Help Support ahead of time to let them know I would not get the emails. As you can see from my previous post, Tim assured me this was not a problem and that I have done all I need to. They will contact me if they decide to put my domains in the auction. The other 3 domains, that are in my name; are listed as “under review”. I am not sure if that is good or bad since there is nothing on their help page telling what that means. It is not one of their 8 levels. I have not received any emails on those domains requesting verification, so I really don’t know where they stand in the system. But I do have full faith in Aftermarket that if they say they will review my names, that they will. Time will tell.

  24. charlie22 Says:

I think everyone’s domains say under review. I also noticed that it is not on the list.

  25. millismon Says:

So does the final list come out Fri. The 14th.

  26. charlie22 Says:

    millismon,

Do your domains still say under review?

  27. millismon Says:

Yea Charlie still under review.Butreview.But I am hoping for the best.

  28. charlie22 Says:

    millismon,

Good luck! If they don’t get acccepted, I am hoping they change from under review to something else. At least I will know they looked at them. It makes me wonder…

  29. aleksandar030 Says:

Mine are under review too (21 domain names).

  30. millismon Says:

I have over 200 names that are still under review.Letsreview.Lets hope for the best everybody.

  31. millismon Says:

Hey uncool you don’t think AussieCreditReport.ComAussieCreditReport.Com is a decent domain name,I think it is at least decent.

  32. prospecting Says:

    submitted: Prospecting.comProspecting.com
But have not heard from the review committee one way or the other.

  33. Traderwaynes Says:

    Hi Prospecting,
I submitted the mining term paystreak.compaystreak.com and it was appraised by Great domains for up to $40,000 years ago. Haven’t heard on it either. I guess everyone is looking more for traffic dollars than brandability. Any mining company in the world would be familiar with the term paystreak. That’s the ore vein they are all looking for. I guess we might have to learn marketing to sell our domains ourselves.
    Good luck!
    Wayne

  34. charlie22 Says:

Has anyone had the status of their domains change?

  35. charlie22 Says:

I think this will be my last time submitting to this auction. They are very unorganized. They never do as they promise, everything is done at the last minute.

  36. charlie22 Says:

Is anyone having problems getting into their auction manager?

UPDATED: The Auction Manager can be reached once you are logged into your account at the following URL:

  37. julcsanc Says:

it seem they already turnoff the auction manager, and you can see the domains for auction if you enter here http://www.domaintools.com/domain-auctions/live/DownUnder.
