A few of my favorite domains in this auction that stand out. I love Healthy Heart.com because it will always be a term people hear about throughout their life. If you are young perhaps you may not search out this term, but when you are older you will. For $225,000 it looks expensive but it is well worth it and that is why it is the most expensive domain in our up coming auction.
No Fees.com for $150,000 is a natural as well. Easy to remember and perfect for a nationwide commercial that would promote a particular bank. People naturally don’t want to pay fees and also would seek out this term. With organic linkage good SEO this domain pays for itself every year. This term will not get cheaper and is a steal.
Kegger.com is a great name for an edger version of a site like Beer.com. More of the college ground but less appeal then the more generic Beer domain. At only $150,000 this is another steal.
Money TV.com describes itself. This is a natural domain name that is worth serious money. People watching TV about Money have money and therefor the advertising rates for those viewers is higher then most other shows. For only $90,000 this is a bargain.
Public Forum.com I see as a bit of a stretch for $75,000 however it is such a natural language phrase I think it is worth it. If there is a bidding war on this one it could go very high.
What are your favorite domains in the auction? Keep it positive and on subject please. No whining about not being picked, please do that in another blog post.
The full list is available now for anyone to view. Bidding will open on Monday and the gavel will go down Thursday January 3rd.

i like moneytv.com and charmedlife.com
both have so much potential - very memorable

EastTimor.org is a nice one. Is it really $250 reserve? becuase a country domain perfectly fits the .org extention. Especially a country like East Timor where there are many international organizations involved in projects. Or, I think it is just for me since I work in NGO’s.
I like NoFees.com too. Very memorable

A lot of nice names there but dishthedirt.com really has me wondering. What does it mean? I googled the phrase and was rewarded with a answer. I had figured it should have been “ditch the dirt” as in “throw out the dirt” but it’s dish as in “dish out the dirt” from what I’ve seen now.
I’m hoping someone buys that and builds a site just so I can see the name in action. Should be interesting.
Anyway I registered “ditchthedirt.com” just now thinking that I might build a site around that phrase anyway. Should be fun. I like playing on words, colloquialisms and phrases that make you stop short and think. Always have!

…”dish the dirt” is a common phrase over here in the UK. It means “tell me the gossip”. Similar to “spill the beans”.

Of the names on the list that Jay did not point out… I like InfantCare.com - PhotoDigest.com - unTrue.com the best.
In fact unTrue.com (I believe) has great potential not only for sale but for use.

I like FederalSubsidy.com at $12.5K … seems cheap when FederalGrants.com went for $75K+

Hi Jay,
This may be a minor point, but on your page of upcoming live auctions, in the blue bar above this Jan 3rd’s auction it says Wed. at 11 and not Thurs.
I would also like to mention that I owned and operated an auction house in upstate New York for 7 years and if you have a chance sometime I would like to share with you some ideas that would translate well into what you are doing here. I wish you and your staff all the best this coming Thursday.

I like nerdy.com, but the reserve seems a bit on the high side. No doubt it could sell for that much, but I would have liked to see it get bid up to that amount.
nofees.com is also very nice.

Where is the promotion of the auction?
December 29th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
Jay stop deleting my comments and market this auction!
An auction is not only create a web 2.00 software and make money.
Many people are giving you their trust to sell their names at the best prices.
Please do your maximimum, not your minimum to acheive this mission.
ADVERTISE THIS “PRIVATE” AUCTION!

I would like to promote to end users/retail buyers. Where do I tell them to go to sign up. I would like to start that tomorrow. Please get the interface up soon.

would be cool to have a Widget that we could place on our blogs/sites to promote the auction. Maybe it could take them to a domain we are selling or just to the auction page itself with all the domains.
Just a thought.

When does the auction start on Monday?

Any link yet for the auction?
December 31st, 2007 at 11:53 am
Look at the Pingbacks everybody seems to think that the auction is on Jan 3rd at 11, but this post says that it starts today (Dec 31). I am confused, as I do not see where to bid.

Jay, please post and state what is going on here. The business day is now over and nowhere is the list to be found. Tomorrow is a holiday. That leaves only one day to view the list before the very fast auction occurs. Nowhere is there any evidence of marketing efforts. Please explain to all of us who have a big stake in this and skipped other auctions to be in this one.

I thought the auction started on Wednesday. I just noticed the last sentence in the post above about bidding being available today.
Not to argue, but there’s actually 3 and a half hours left in the business day here on the West Coast. The full list is already up
I have 3 names in the auction. I was surprised to hear that there would be “advanced” bidding. Is this normally done?

I do not think the full list is finalized as of yet. If you check the list:
“This is a preliminary list of what to expect on the January 3rd Live Auction. This list has not been finalized and there is still a chance to have your domains on it. “
December 31st, 2007 at 1:59 pm
i also thought that bidding opened today, or that people could at least sign up as bidders. - i spent several hours this morning emailing potential buyers - gave them the link to the list and to the main page of domain tools as Jay said the link would be VERY OBVIOUS. oops on me.
I only have one domain in the mix - but I have high hopes for it.

“Bidding will open on Monday and the gavel will go down Thursday January 3rd”
Jay - did the aliens take you….can you please post and clarify the auction times and how people can bid - Thanks
Happy New Year…
UPDATE BY JAY: We are about to open the bidding. It will be today. I am happy to announce we will close the auction January 10th now. Once week extra. I will announce this soon as a separate post.

Thanks Jay, a little info goes a long way. I think it is a VERY wise move to extend the auction. Many people are away all this week.
December 31st, 2007 at 3:04 pm
Yes, very good move Jay - thanks for touching base with everyone.
December 31st, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Thanks Jay for the update. If you sift through the comments there are a couple of threads that stand out to me as a former auctioneer.
1. You obviously need to give your potential bidders enough time to hear about the auction and let those involved in the sale time to initiate some buzz. Thanks for taking care of that with the new Jan. 10 auction date.
2. As an auctioneer one of my biggest responsibilities was to make sure that the word got out about what was going up for auction and when. If I did work at bringing in the best bids for my clients, I would not have lasted very long. You certainly have the contacts and an excellent reputation so I’m sure you have plans for advertising this along with your future auctions. I believe there is a real need for high quality domain name auctions perhaps even on a monthly basis. If one could work out all of the kinks and standardize the format it should become very popular and profitable.
We are looking forward to your next announcement. May everyone have a Happy New Year!

I have one dot-com in this auction, so I have been watching the blog posts (and the calendar) closely. I agree with rptek (#22) and domainrock (#23) … extending the auction by one week is a good move.
End-of-Year Bonus: I’m going to add the dot-net version of my domain name without increasing the $6K reserve. To avoid a shameless plug, I’ll submit the name in a separate ticket.
Happy New Year to Jay, the DomainTools Team and the DT blog community!
