DomainTools Tattoo

What a brilliant way to get your brand out there. A Tattoo is a source of pride and a conversation starter. So I thought I would make the offer of a free Gold Membership for life to any member that wanted to come to Seattle and get a DomainTools logo tattooed on themselves. You will become a marketing engine for our company and everywhere you show off your tattoo people will learn about our company.
After watching Inked on A&E I know there are enough people out there that get tattoos. So my proposal is for those domainers out there that want to show off their DomainTools pride and also get a permanent page on our site where we document the whole process and have lots of pictures of the event is to come and get the tattoo.
We are basically paying people $0.50 a day for the rest of their life (via the free Gold membership) and covering the tattoo costs, plus airfare and hotel. Flights within North America only. Airfare and Hotel are only valid for the first person that gets the tattoo.

I’m ready, willing, and available! Where do I sign up?
UPDATE BY JAY: Ok Paul, I will email you and set it up.

Man, I would seriously consider doing this if Paul didn’t beat me to it. Just for a trip to Seattle, which I have always wanted to visit. Plus your logo is pretty dang sweet as a tattoo!

UGH!
I guess that shows my age.
I recently saw a young girl with her boyfriend’s name tattooed on her neck; I thought I would vomit.
Trust me, 30 years from when your body parts go south, your tattoos will follow.

Ms - can you just see some of these gals with “Born to Be Wild” tattooed on their butts - in 40 years being lifted onto a bed pan in the nursing home?

The logo isn’t bad, as long as it doesn’t say “HAY CHECK OUT DOMAINTOOLS.COM YEAH!”. But yeah, no tattoos for me, especially advertisements.

That must have been one heck of a holiday office party! Forget the tattoo; I want to see the pictures.

Well Jay,
Nothing wrong with the Tattoo idea but……
Wouldn’t it be better to put a “We use Domain Tools” banner on a bunch of websites? I’m sure you guys could code up something useful real quick that many of us would put on our pages and place your banner there also.

My Dear Sir Jay , greeting hi ,
i think : :::::
tattooing with pure text ““`DomainTools.com”"”" may b[be] better than
tattooing with ‘the graphiccal logo
tattooing with pure text ““`DomainTools.com”"”" may b[be] even better
than
the combination o’[of]
that-graphiccal-logo +
the text ““`DomainTools.com”"”"
thence ,
the people kan to type in DomainTools.com very instantly

I know!!! You could sponsor one of the Monster Trucks whose owners hang out on my Monster Truck Trading Center web board. Those guys/gals really get your name out there. Picture your vinyl logo and domain on a monster truck.
That would be cooler than a Tattoo anyday! IMHO

Don’t look now folks, but that “logo” is almost exactly a Microsoft Icon.
Check it out in change Icon in XP.

Gramma,
You crack me up!
Back in the day (Vietnam era), my grandmother had one edict to her grandsons going into the service: No tattoos.
Young women didn’t get tattoos back then: only sailors and tramps.
How times have changed.
Back in the mid-80’s, my then-teen son wanted to get a mohawk, and I said, “Fine,” but had he asked for a tattoo, I would have nixed it.
A mohawk will eventually grow out, but an impulsive tattoo is forever, and like Gramma says, when your children and grandchildren see that “Born to be Wild” wrinkled and sagging on your butt, woo! hoo!

Well I am friends with the guy that had tattooed logos on his forehead, known as 007 on dnf, but he only did 30 day tats, not permanant ones.

Is anyone considering the possibility that if Domain Tools is at some future date unable to honor their commitment to a lifetime Gold Membership, the tattoo will be of absolutely no value. Anyone receiving a Domain Tools tattoo should, under contract, requite that an escrow account be established to pay for the removal of the tattoo if Domain Tools is unable to fulfill their part of the agreement.
Has the ambulance-chaser retained by Domain Tools had the opportunity to review this “lifetime” offer? Most of the lawyers I know develop uncontrollable twitches at the mention of “lifetime” anything.

Maybe I’m old school, but tattooing seems to be sleazy way to advertise an otherwise sophisticated product. Motorcycles or Beer maybe…, but a whois tool?
From the users point of view, I wonder if there are any people out there with tattoos from AltaVista, Pets.com, Compuserve, NameWinner.com or even Registerfly.com or Enron who may have had a change of heart. In internet terms, what’s hot or reputable today, can change quickly with changing markets, buyouts, and simply changes in management.
Whois as we now know it may not even exist in 10 years, so why make a lifetime commitment. Domaintools itself seems to be evolving from a whois tool to an auction house and and conference promoter.

I’m down, e-mail me all the information.

I think this is a great PR idea. I agree with AdoptableDomains though that you want to check the small print.
Maybe this is an idea - make your company logo something that would be very cool as a tattoo so everyone wants it inked. For instance - the Apple logo makes a reasonable tattoo - and I’m pretty sure a lot of people are wearing that.

My ears got cold yesterday inspite of all my long hair! How about a Domain Tools Toboggan Hat?
December 27th, 2007 at 3:11 pm
Did Paul ever do this?
December 27th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
I’m heading over to Seattle next week so stop back and see the pix and read all about my trip.
I plan to visit the Experience Music Project and drink a lot of coffee during my stay.
I’d appreciate any other “can’t miss” suggestions too.

It is amazing to me that someone would want to wear a tattoo of someone else’s logo - even for compensation since removal of a tattoo is both painful and costly. So be it, different strokes for different folks. Paul should read about tattoo after care before he gets his tattoo so he will know what to expect. Anyone with an older tattoo should also check out tattoo after care as well as older tattoos also require some care.
