Moniker/Traffic Auction Results

Submit to Digg.com!

October 14th, 2007 by Jay Westerdal

Domaintools GavelComputer.com flips again for $2,200,000. The domain has been in a Superbowl commercial and has a lot of owners over the years, but every time it goes to auction it gets more expensive. This was the only domain that sold for more then a million dollars.

Investment.com sells for $900,000 but OnlineInvestment.com sells for $9,000. It goes to show not many domains can sell for more then $100,000.  There were 12 other domains that sold for more then $100,000. It takes a special domain to go 6 digits at an auction. SportingGoods.com goes to bat at $450,000. The CowBoys football team scores a new address for their team at Cowboys.com for a cheap $275,000. The generic category of CateringService.com is fully baked at $270,000. Someone sets the Table.com for $260,000. My personal favorite of the big boys is CrosswordPuzzles.com for $210,000. If you want to find evil lawyers, try this new site, CriminalLawyers.com for $195,000. Some club promoter ponied up Promotion.com 8,500 admission tickets at $20 a pop ($170,000). If you want to play Poker on your mobi head on over to Poker.mobi which cashed in for $150,000. The songs can be downloaded at Ringtones.mobi for $145,000. People can now better plan a trip at CaribbeanVacations.com for $130,000. A new couple may want to visit Newlyweds.com which was gifted at $130,000. Or the singles can head to a new dating site at SinglesOnline.com for $125,000. If you want to figure out what is going on in the world just read News.mobi for $110,000.

Due to all the demand, DomainTools will be holding an auction in November. More information will be coming soon. Meanwhile enjoy the full results of the auction as if you where in my head.

Don’t discount .mobi out of hand; I think it’s going to be a hot TLD and used on cell phones world wide. I have reg’d a few good generics.

I also reg’d a .mobi in my two-year-old granddaughter’s first name (variant spelling); it’s only four letters, so anyone calling her on her cell just has to know her name. Of course, for now she has only “play” cell phones.

In Europe, one can buy prepaid cell phone cards at kiosks–NOT a sim card. When we lived in Macedonia, we bought prepaid cards all the time; people in Europe live on their cell phones, even more than Americans.

Poker.mobi will work very well; an offshore casino could set up a cell phone gambling site. Oy!

You’re too young to remember, Jay, but back during the Vietnam war, the Draft Board was something that all young men, between 18-26, feared. If the war drags on much longer, draftboard.com may become a place for information on how to avoid being drafted.

About CriminalLawyers.com: that does sound a bit hinky. Please do your best in reporting these suspicious deals. Some of those prices seem inflated to me.

    Best,
    Ms Domainer

  2. 35608386 Says:

    unitedpeak.com

  3. webmaster24 Says:

    I think deposit.net was a good buy for $4000.
Some others were really expensive though…

    Nuno Oliveira
    CatalogDomains.com

  4. adnetsystems Says:

I would say that some of them seem high for the price they went for. But it does make me happy when I compare them some of my domains, I think the overall domain market is at the beginning of a bubble.

  5. cena Says:

I honestly didn’t come away with anything that was a real “buy” of the day. I have FixedIncome.net in the silent auction and it has no reserve on it and I think that may be better than most of the .nets that were there.

    PaulRubillo.com

  6. DREAMDEALER Says:

As always some seem cheap and others just make you go Hmmm.CriminalLawyers.com seems cheap to me considering how much money some of them make(Think OJs DreamTeam)and all the criminals that wont let their fate rest in the hands of a public defender much less those innocents that are accused in error,Jay what would you think of putting Attorney stats on a site like this….Cases Won,Cases Lost,Plea Bargained Years Saved,Hours Billed…. :P)Cant wait for the auction in November.Jay any tips for data mining for the clueless? StateLotteryResult.com is begging for a site lol.

  7. streamline Says:

    Crossword Puzzles.com $210,000.

“one of my personal favorites. Please develop it out”

Talk to Frank Shilling…he is now the proud owner of this domain.

    Best,
    Dan

  8. domains80265 Says:

Thanks for the auction results list. I was very interested to read your comments alongside each name sold. Any chance that DomainTools could consider offering a domain appraisal service along similar lines? This would not be a monetary appraisal, rather more a quick professional appraisal of potential (or not).

You could offer a fee per domain appraised, and probably limit to 20 or 30 domains at a time. I think there would be a great deal of interest in such a service. At the moment it’s either the online free monetary appraisals (which show results varying between $20 and $54,000 for the same domain depending on which appraisal service you use) or the domain forums for “peer review” (results tend to be of the “Wow, man that domain really sucks!” type, and not very useful).

Have fun at the Open House, and I hope you can comment on this suggestion later.

  9. vpitts-moniker Says:

CriminalLawyers.com had three phone bidders and a left bid - in addition to the interest from the floor. The left bid won the name. Nothing funky going on. Just a fast pace.

  10. MsDomainer Says:

For now, I think I’ll stick to regging cheaper domains and flipping them (I have one at auction now with 1 bid).

Just picked up pokersite.tv–not a sexy one-word dot-com, but it does have future possibilities, and all of the other major TLDs are taken.

    Best,

    Ms Domainer

  11. MsDomainer Says:

    Over at Snapnames:

    Starting bid for CaliforniaPoker.com = $9,999 (Pre-order auction to commence on 10/23).

    Not mine (though I wish).

I’m really confused here; will someone PLEASE explain to me why this domain has created so much buzz? 77,000 Google hits, no Overture that I can find, parked page.

What am I missing? This is a serious question (not snark). Is it because the keywords associated with it are expensive ones (thus, more money for fewer hits)?

I can see the domain doing very well developed, though.

    Ms Domainer

  12. steve54769 Says:

Can’t believe that WallStreet.com didn’t get any action. What was the minimum bid required?

  13. MsDomainer Says:

WallStreet.tv (not mine) is for sale at Sedo.

  14. a100a Says:

Some interesting observations. I enjoyed meeting your team at the auction and been a member of your site for some time now. We did good at the Moniker auction “sold a total 28 names ” and it was a good first time experience. Jay, if you get a chance can you please take a look at http://www.directrequest.com and give me some feedback. Thank-you in advance. Best to you guys! Zig.

  19. domainrealestate Says:

    When is the November auction?
Will domains in the last auction be
    included in the november auction?

  20. gramma Says:

don’t keep me in suspense! :)

UPDATE BY JAY: I have never heard of a MegaPlane. So how about $10? You might ask Mega Man.
