So there is this parking lot across the street from our office…
We have quietly launched a beta program that will rotate our customers’ domain traffic between different parking services. This should increase the revenue a domain makes. The program is in an early beta so don’t upload your entire portfolio or anything but throw a domain on our parking program and see how we do. We are operating it with a 100% revenue share and keeping nothing for ourselves while we work out the kinks. So a few test domains on the system would help us out. We launched with one provider so far, however we will be adding additional parking companies soon and then we will start the smart DNS traffic switching. Currently the beta is testing functionality and revenue reporting. If you have thoughts on what Parking companies we should add next let us know. They need to have an API.
Please send feedback and support issues to “parking <at> domaintools.com”.

Will you be offering a venue through which the names can be sold, should someone inquire about them (i.e. escrow, verify and hold buyer’s payment, assure buyer the domain is owned by the seller, etc..) in addition to the parking?
UPDATE BY JAY: Yes, that will be coming.

Cool! I had just bought a couple domain names and haven’t had time to build sites for them yet. I was thinking about how much revenue I might be losing because they’re parked at the registrar.
One is already there and I’ll look at the others later this week.
Thanks!!!!!

That is good news, but I am wondering why you don’t get your own feed direct from google and yahoo?
As I don’t see why people wouldn’t go direct to park at NameDrive, OR do you get good % shere at namedriver compare to other guys
How are you going to pay? Fourth nightly, monthly or what?
UPDATE BY JAY: Better revenue share. If we wanted a direct feed from Google we would get a 50% revenue deal. A well established parking company may be getting 90%. Same goes for people that park their domains at parking companies. You will start out with a 50% revenue share on a 50% revenue share. Meaning that you will be earning 25% of the pie. By working as a collective DomainTools is able to increase revenue for everyone that is in our program.
Payment will be paid net 14 days once every 14 days. Minimum payout will need to be $50.

Jay, something as simple as an FAQ would be nice to see.

Hi Jay, I thought there was a donut shop across the street from your office.
Congratulations on yet another innovation from DomainTools. Smart DNS traffic switching is an awesome concept!
Until now, I’ve parked all of my domain names at Sedo, but I know the keywords were not optimized for search engines, etc. So, while I got some decent traffic, the monetization has been marginal.
I’ve just moved six of my domain names to DomainTools and will be interested to see how they do. More could follow …
Best regards.
UPDATE BY JAY: Donut Shop and Parking Lot. It is a big block.

Cheers for another capable contender in the domain business, aside from the common giants of Namemedia/Afternic and Sedo…

I was looking for help. Four years ago after my 7th surgery I found ways to keep my health under control. I wanted to share it with the world and bought domain like helpwithcancer.com helpwithdigestion.com helpwithheartdisease.com and several more. How can I find out what they might sell for? What is the best way to sell them? It seems from this blog that the auction or the place you sell them can mean a great deal in how much the price is worth. Thank you for any help…
Rick
UPDATE BY JAY: Rick, this post is not really about selling domains. But if I was you I would list them at Afternic and Sedo.

I understand Jay and I’m sorry. I’ve grown up helping people price their homes for sale by a comparative market analysis, but there are so many factors with this virtual real estate. Afternic charges at least 60 dollars per sale plus a commission, but ebay will only cost me a few dollars plus a smaller commission. You wrote about sale prices at live autions that were amazing. Once again sorry I am out of line here.

Jay, great idea on this and I hope it works. I recently picked up wayfarring.com and I haven’t had a chance to build a parked page yet so I’ll see what yours can do!

Hello Jay
The thing I don’t like about jumping parking companies is that I can not keep track of stats; from where is traffic comming from and additional details, usefull to optimize better.
Also who will optimize? or how on every parking company..
Will your parking program plan to solve some or all of those issues?
Just a question.
Appreciate a reply
Regards
UPDATE BY JAY: We are working on the basics right now. We will be tackling harder issues like this next year. We plan to help you find the right parking company for each domain on a dynamic approach. Once you are the right company we will routinely check to see if another parking company can beat that company’s current payout.
