TrafficZ Party at Domain Roundtable

August 19th, 2007 by Jay Westerdal

We had four parties this year at the Domain Roundtable, one for each night of the conference. I think a good party is the corner stone of a domain conference. The award for best party definitely goes to TrafficZ this year. Ammar Kubba of TrafficZ hosted a Grassroots.orgGrassroots.org fund raiser body painting contest. All funds that were raised go towards helping GrassRoots assist other charities getting online and having a digital presence. This is a great charity and I am glad to support it. Donations were given in many ways – auctioning off girls to paint, voting for best girl, and just plain donations. This was the best fund raiser I have seen for any charity to date. I had a fun time giving away money.

TrafficZ and DomainTools are also announcing that we will give away a 90% revenue share for Q4 of this year to TrafficZ parking and a one year free Gold Membership to DomainTools for an entire company to anyone that donates $5,000 towards GrassRoots.orgGrassRoots.org. A 90% revenue share is extremely generous so I would encourage any big domain holders out there to take Ammar up on this offer. Angela Siefer at GrassRoots.org will be able to take your donation. I think 90% revenue share would net a few domainers a few thousand dollars a week extra. If you make over $40,000 in a quarter I would suggest you take us up on this offer ASAP. You will not only make money but you will be supporting a charity that supports other charities. A total win-win for everyone.

The big part of the success of the TrafficZ party was the initial bidding by certain people to get the rest of the timid crowd involved. Whether it was the cameras or just the thought of caressing paint brushes against the bodies of 15 very sexy girls, lots of the audience were lurking with cameras and cameraphones, but not bidding or getting involved in the body painting bidding. The upper level of the night club was choked with guys leaning over with their camera phones.

At first, it looked like one of those Junior High school dances where all the nerdy guys are too afraid to ask the hot girls to dance. Then, Stephen Webb stepped up and started the fever, bidding about $150 to paint a girl. Then Nameintel, headed up by Ray Bero, bid on one, then two girls, and Ammar showed how to be a man and party for a charity by bidding on a girl to paint. However, I’d give it up to Stephen Webb of Iamdomainnames.comIamdomainnames.com for bidding on not one, but THREE girls to paint. His photo is at the top of this blog post (he’s showing his hands). I think because of Stephen’s enthusiasm and generous giving to the Grassroots.orgGrassroots.org charity by bidding on girls to paint, domainers decided it was okay to get involved, thinking their wives and girlfriends would probably NOT find out about it. Whether that’s true today, I don’t know. I do offer a a website for those who suffered the fallout from partying until 3am at the TZ party. It’s called “Iwishcameraphoneswereneverinvented.comIwishcameraphoneswereneverinvented.com

Additionally, I did hear a rumor that Ammar Kubba was hoisted up by 10 bikini-clad models and carried like a rock star over their heads all around the nightclub. I asked Ammar about it later and he said “what happens at the DRT, stays at the DRT”. I agreed. ;-) *wink wink*

The TrafficZ party was a HUGE success, and lasted for more than five hours. I doubt any domain conference in the near future will be able to throw a party that comes close to TZ’s DRT party. Way to go Angela Siefer from Grassroots.orgGrassroots.org and Ammar Kubba. (Sevan Derderian showed his people skills by handling the MC duties)

Last but not least, I saw a photo of Jay with the three blonde bombshells behind him, and Jay looks like he was just told that they all know how to code. :-)
