Pick the Winning Domains

Time for our first installment of “Pick the Winning Domains”. Before every auction we enable voting on all the domains going into the auction by any registered user of DomainTools. If a user is able to successfully pick all the domains that sell and those that do not sell, they will win 2 free tickets to the next conference. This is 450 successful picks in a row. This is rather hard to do mathematically because if these were coin tosses this would be well over 1 in a googol shot. For those that do not know; a Googol is 1 followed by 100 zeros. However some of the names will clearly sell and some of the names are risky for being too high of a reserve. So step right up and cast your vote. Please note, this is NOT the FINAL list. The final list will be August 6th. We still have room for domains to slide out or in.
- Login to DomainTools.
- Go to www.domaintools.com/live-auction/browse-domains.html
- If you don’t see voting options on the page then you are not logged in.
- Vote for all 450 domains.
- Check back regularly as some domains will be removed and other domains will be added.
The person that gets the most successful picks will also get 2 free tickets to the next show and $1,000. Second prize will get one free ticket to the next show.
Vote Good if it will be sold, Vote Bad if it will not be sold.

Is this the final list of names that will be considered?
Not sure what to think of this list, so many odd names at only 1,000. Should keep it at 5k at the very least. Its not even worth the time to sell it for 1k.
UPDATE BY JAY: Nope, not the final list.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:26 am
ahhh clarification! Good = will sell Bad = won’t sell
Excellent - back to voting with better scrutiny of name vs reserve
I’m so excited about this auction! The variety of names and subjects is outstanding.

rebates.com
how.com
FULLCOCK.COM???
i have 2 accepted names thusfur but am wondering if this auction is on the verge of becoming a farce.
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:11 am
Im rather shocked theres a .MOBI sponsor yet no mobi domains are on the list? I submitted applications.mobi and pennystocks.mobi recently stocks.mobi sold for 70g.
Luckily I submitted them yday for the Oct. Traffic auction since they arent in the top 450 here.
Jay definetely needs to clean up the top 450 list tho, hard process I bet but Best of Luck.
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:41 am
Jay,
I know you have alot of pressure to get these done. Just curioso… have you had a chance to look at mine yet? Just wondering… no pressure at all.
BTW, as I said yesterday, if you need any help, I’d be happy to help in any way possible.
Thanks.

Hi!
I have just recognized that some scores has gone to 0, when sorting the list.
I also would like to see .mobi in the auction.
I hope wellness.mobi
Best regards

Hi J., botpc.com says “already up for auction”, but it is nowhere on my list.In case you are able to fix it, I am trying to list botpc with(universalrobot.com, mobilebots.com, pcbots.com) grouping.
OH NO! I just went to double check before submitting this, and all but the first page of domains disappeared when I clicked on the page number, including a name that made it. I will try re-submitting all my names. I worked real hard on my comments on my day off yesterday, and may not have time now to make good comments. Thanks for any way you may be able to help me. Marissa

Hello Jay,
Any chance my domain: SwingSets.Net will make it?
Thanks,
Brian
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:07 am
Hope springs eternal …I just added a first name dot com to my list - good overture - good google- ‘certified premium’. Type in traffic
Didn’t see one in the master list - thought it might be good for variety’s sake.
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:11 am
Hi Marissa! We still have a few days left for the final list. And I also have recognized this problem as mentioned above. Unfortunately one of my highest scored names (wellness.mobi) was deleted. We will see what will happen but “hope springs eternal”.
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:08 am
nursemarissa, the pagination is busted but you can display all your names by entering a large number in the “Record per page” field.
UPDATE BY JAY: Pagination is fixed. Feel free to page through again.

I want to make just a brief comment here. I noticed quite a bit of people asking if they lowered their reserves if their domains would make the cut.
The reason reserves are set low, is to increase bidding. Perhaps what you guys fail to see is the live auction effect on a well priced domain. Often times if you get bidders in a bidding war, they will outbid your expectations.
Secondly, the other issue here is the quality of domain names. I see people asking about there domain names if they are going to make the cut. Honestly… 75% of what I see posted on this comment section are to be blunt; Bad.
Honestly, take a step back for a second and allow people who have been doing this for sometime to get this auction together. They want to put up domains that stand the best chance of selling. Its in there interest and ours.
Justin
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:50 am
I must agree with Justin. Although I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, I see many names on the list that frankly don’t seem to be of great quality. I have four names submitted and hope that atleast one makes the cut, but I’m not expecting miracles, because there are many yet under review that will stand out as winners above mine I am sure. If nothing else, the whole process has been interesting and educational.
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:03 am
Hi Jay,
It may be time to stop accepting new submissions as the backlog of reviews is only going to increase. I got only one name reviewed out of about 250 and was probably among the first to submit.
Thanks,
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:13 am
I’d really like to see my names at least get reviewed
Not one of my names is out of the “pending review” status and they are pretty decent names with type-in value and revenue. I submitted the first one on July 12.
Can you take a quick peek at my account Jay?
UPDATE BY JAY: GotPoker.com for $50,000. Pass.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:17 am
Will we know if our domains have been reviewed by the status? Or if they still say pending review is their a chance they haven’t been considered yet?
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: The domains will say Pending Review. We are not changing the status on domains until August 6th. Everything is open to Review until then. But you have a good chance at being in the auction if your status has changed to confirmed.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:20 am
Jay, I lowered the domain name CamperLinks.com to $20k for reserve and ConservativeCamp.com to $15k reserve, per your response to me, but I did not see and update back again. Did my bringing the reserve down to $20k from $30k make it low enough for CamperLinks.com to get in? ConservativeCamp.com? Any of the others?
Please let me know so I can decide my next moves.
Thanks.
Bob
UPDATE BY JAY: Bobby, those domains are just too expensive.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:15 am
I think there is alot of people just voting good names down to see their names in auction… please reconsider some of those that you know are worthy of selling in auction.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:41 am
Good luck to all who made the list. We all have questions about some of the names, but regardless, it is Jay’s auction and he can choose who he and his team wants and make the rules however they see fit. My names did not seem make this list’s cut, however, I do want this thing to succeed, regardless. At the same time, I am glad there are other live auctions such as Moniker’s to get an opportunity for.
Candleman, as for Justin’s comments,he was not criticising the final-cut list as being the awful names, he was criticising those of us who still are trying to understand why some of our domains did not make the final cut as the 75% of “awful names.” However, I had some issues with some of the names in the final list, but as they say, to each his own. My idea of a crummy name may be someone else’s idea of a bargain name at $500,000. Who knows, there really is no way to tell, as this game is still more art than science.
Cheers everyone!
Bob

I have been following the progress of this auction list with great interest. Also experiencing some “huh??” moments as I see various names make the preliminary list that (as one prior correspondent said) most of us wouldn’t even register at standard reg fee. I have voted on all names and was interested to see that my Good or Bad votes invariably reflected the running vote totals. I feel that most of the votes are honest and straightforward, and not trying to skew the selection for personal benefit. It doesn’t take a domain genius to look at SevensMiles.com with its 1 x Good vote to 59 x Bad to realise that’s a pretty accurate reflection of the “value” of this sort of domain. However, with keynote speaker Frank Schilling (SevenMile.com) attending the conference, I expect we can safely predict this domain will be off the list before the start of the auction.
UPDATE BY JAY: SevenSmiles.com may not make it, you are correct.
Keep up the voting.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:04 pm
I don’t understand some of the professional domain owners posting here.
1. Many of the names that people asked Jay to individually review wouldn’t sell on any of the domain forums if they were offered for $20/each let alone the thousands they are listed at/
2. Why on Earth would someone submit a list of more than 5-15 names? This auction only consists of 450 names in total and some people are submitting HUNDREDS of names? Professionals should know which of their domains are best and worthy of making the final cut. Use some common sense. Had 50,000+ names not been submitted, Jay and his staff would have much more time to evaluate good names rather than having to wade through a bunch of crap that was submitted. I guess some people used the old cliche of throwing $hit against the wall, hoping some of it would stick.
3. Read the rules before submitting names and stop wasting everyone’s time. Off the top of my head, I believe Jay said it would mostly be .com names that are at least 3 years old. If the names don’t fit within these parameters, maybe they should be sold in another venue.
4. Stop whining if your names weren’t selected. If they are good names and someone wants to buy them, they will contact you.
5. List your names for the lowest you would want to sell them. If Jay asks you to lower your reserve and you would be uncomfortable selling for less, then don’t do it! Chances are good that if you set a fair price for a good name, the market will price it correctly. If you are afraid that the audience won’t be spending much, then don’t lower your price!
6. Like someone else said in the other thread, take a break from your computers, and stop bitching and moaning if your names haven’t been selected. I am sure they are working hard to create a winning auction for all parties.

GO ELLIOT….GO ELLIOT
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:20 pm
I have had my share of wtf moments when I have seen select names on the list. However I think it is a tad bit disrespectful to call x or y name awful. In this industry of all places, it only takes one person to find the worth of something.
Yes, one can determine that certain types of names might not fit this specific model. However this doesn’t mean they are awful. All because x person might not register a name at “reg fee” or if it was for sale for sub $50 doesn’t mean it is awful.
In the end, just go about your business & hopefully things will work out for you. GL to everyone whether you will make it to the auction or not.

pls take a final look at my inventory - i just added another name:
namethat.com w/ 1.877.name.that
thx.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:38 pm
Thanks for the reality check, Jay
I’ve lowered my reserve on most of my names to be in line with the other domains in the auction.
August 2nd, 2007 at 3:56 pm
Jay, what do you think of the 100k reserve for LoveStories.com? Considering some of the other domains that have higher reserves, do you think LoveStories.com is a bit too low? Thanks for your input.
MrHit
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:14 pm
Thanks Jay. I will bring CamperLinks.com and ConservativeCamp.com down one last time to $15,000.00 reserve, but after that, I guess I just don’t dare go any further. So if that is not enough for this auction, then so be it. Jay, regardless, thanks for putting this auction on and good luck to you. I am sure you will be glad to have this one over, but it will be a success and I hope all the names do well that are on the list. And as for Elliot, I also agree with you. Too much bitterness here if some did not make it. This is a win for all of us, regardless!
Look for the final change in my control Jay. Let me know if either of these two names can make the final cut at $15,000. I would appreciate your input so I know whether to just take the names out completely.
My best regards,
Bob

Jay: are there any domains I submitted if I were to lower reserve may make it? whats your opinion? thanks
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Jay ,
I have a couple of domains that have confirmed status , but are not on the list (I suspect it was from a bug , about a week ago , that added confirmed to any domain that was lowered to $1000) … is any of those 3 domains possible candidates for the auction ?
while there , and if it does not interfere with your already heavy workload , can you also take a quick look on the other domains on my list ? I submitted them “late on the show” , but I think there are some nice ones in there at very good prices …
thanks
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:28 pm
Hi Jay:
Still no indication my domains have been assessed. I’ve lowered my reserves in the hope one of them might make the final cut. Hope they haven’t been overlooked in the deluge.
August 2nd, 2007 at 5:35 pm
Jay, I was delighted when one of my names made it onto the preliminary list of 450 names, even though it was #449. It slowly crept up to #448, then #447. Woohoo! But now, it has slipped down to #450!! Talk about a cliffhanger! I think I need a cold beer! And I really need everyone’s vote for CanadaBrew.com, eh.
TK
August 2nd, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Jay, I’ve got far more in my list than the one lower quality name that changed from confirmed to eligible… I know you’re swamped but take a look please.. all the other names seem to have not been reviewed…. and I’ve got low reserves on all of them….
August 2nd, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Suppose someone who is not registered for the conference wants to bid on some domains? How can they do it?
UPDATE BY JAY: They can bid online for free. Or they can attend the Auction day for free.
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:15 pm
This has been pretty entertaining to watch play out. I was very hopeful that the domain I entered **(TheBestCompanies.com)** would make the list and at one point was pretty confident that it would indeed make it, since I think its better than several in the current 450. Now I’m not so sure and its probably because the reserve is too high but whatever, I’m not prepared to risk letting it for less at this point in time.
I’m somewhat of a newb at this, so thanks to all for your comments, I’ve learned a lot and plan to stick around in this business. I’ve been around since 1995 and am kicking myself at some of the domains I’ve had and let expire back in the early days. Hopefully I can build a respectable portfolio up here again over the next few years.
Good luck to all and keep rooting for TheBestCompanies.com to make the final cut!!!

Here’s the best deal on the list: HomeSites.com, .biz, AND .info (plus homesite.info thrown in for good measure) for an amazing low reserve… The Real Estate folks and the Web Site moguls can start a bidding war over this one!
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:55 pm
Jay I was wondering, I know longer have the option to remove domains but they still say pending review? I have asuspace.com and beerspace.com portfolios and several others listed. Can you please comment? Thanks.
UPDATE BY JAY: Database replication can cause the action, it is possible there might be a 5 minute delay at the busy times.
August 3rd, 2007 at 6:53 am
Can anyone tell me whats a good reserve for http://www.frz.com. I am new to this whole domain thing, I did not realize there were parking for domain until recently. Also, since Jay is quite busy maybe you can also tell me how do you put a low reserve without losing your domain for less than its market value? If not for this auction then I will have the info for other auctions.
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: How much money do you make on the domain? Multiple that by 7 years. That is a good starting reserve.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:29 pm
Some of the posters here seem to have forgotten the rules set by Jay and also the reason for the vote. It was speelled out that most entries in the auction would be coms,”with very few exceptions” and the vote is not whether you like it or not, but “will it sell or not at the price”. Clearly some domains are ok names, but have unreasonable reserves, which will make it difficult for them to sell or even attract a starting bid.
I have submitted non .coms but am realistic if they are rejected.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Alas, I am still unconfirmed and pending review. 13 domains 600-710.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Jay, I continue to be impressed by the work you and your team are doing to ensure the success of this auction!
Even though GreatBearRainforest.com (3 keywords, mega public interest in Canada and internationally) with a reduced reserve still didn’t make the cut, I wanted to vote on the 450 names that did. But some of the dates in the ‘created’ column caught my attention, so I checked the rules posted on July 1. Sure enough, rule #5 clearly states ‘Domain must be older than three years old.’
If my math is correct, a domain would have to be registered August 15, 2004 or earlier to qualify. I counted at least 39 names that did not meet this requirement, including four .eu and one .in.
I trust that any ineligible names will be removed before August 6, thereby giving some other names the opportunity to participate.
UPDATE BY JAY: .EU was not around 3 years ago. So those names are except. Poker.in is allowed in because the rules were loosened in India and now it is easy to for anyone to register a .IN. There are a billion people in India and Poker is one of the most valuable domains.
I am allowing domains that have been registered before August 15th 2004 but they may not be showing that with the date you looked at. Those domains were picked up on drops and were previously registered prior to the date. You will need to recheck the history of those domains, don’t trust the current creation date.
We will be removing domains, so please watch.
August 3rd, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Ok, Maybe I am confused… this domains got listed, LoveStories.com, Castillo.com, KeepTheFaith.com (these where simply in the first thread, nothing personal to the owner of them.) but FloridaSwingers.com ($10k reserve) didn’t!? Tell me what did I miss in the evaluation of a good domain name? Swingers is a serious industry and AdultFriendFinder.com has proved that! And you add the fact that Florida is one of the largest swingers states, you have a great brand-able, memorable and keyworded domain name.
Seriously, is this is a closed network of domainiers that I am not part of? Is acceptance by invitation only?
And Yes, I’m competitive and jealous.
Eagerly awaiting comments…
UPDATE BY JAY: This is anything but closed. We are open. However Florida is only one state and one of many geolocations. I recognize that Florida is a big state. How much money does the domain make on parking right now? If you listed that in the notes and we got a copy of the stats it might make the cut.
August 3rd, 2007 at 2:22 pm
I know the original rules call for all .com (with few exceptions). I do see that for primary listings there are now .net, .org, .cc, .in, .tv, and .eu. It would be nice to have a little of the best of each major TLD and add a couple each of biz, info, and us which by the way domaintools sees as important enough to track in your domaintools services, when you don’t even track cc/in/tv/eu.
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:44 pm
would love to see .mobi in the auction being that they are sponsors dont u agree!?
August 3rd, 2007 at 5:45 pm
Jay if you’re interested in torrie.com at all - i can make the stats available to you - I don’t fully understand awstats - but looks like about 230 SE hits a day to me …
thanks
August 3rd, 2007 at 5:48 pm
still hoping for mobi too
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Jay I know your busy, if there is any way you can let me know if any of my domains might make the auction. If I can get some included in the auction then I will fly out. (beerspace.com portfolio)
August 3rd, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Which tool are you more experienced folks using to check overture rank? Are those numbers you’re quoting monthly, or how many entries the term has in Google, msn, etc. or ? Thanks.
August 3rd, 2007 at 8:34 pm
I have been critical of this auction and the decisions made in a previous post. I have since taken a deep breath, thought about it, and followed Jay’s advice by lowering the reserves. I now believe I was the wrong one, and should have waited before I was so quick to criticize efforts (in a post of all places). It is easy to get carried away when dealing with expectations for our own domains.
I’m sorry Jay, and really do appreciate your all round consideration. Your doing a fantastic thing for this industry, and we all should be appreciative of this, even if things don’t go our way!
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Sir,
Do we understand correctly that submissions will be cut off some time on Monday, August 6th? Then you and your team will continue to vet all “unconfirmed” or “pending review” domains [and lots] and Top 450 will change until you lock the list. This will be done in time to have each owner sign a contract to participate.
Is this right?
Thank you. Again.
UPDATE BY JAY: On Monday the contracts will go out to all people that have names in the auction. They will have until Friday to return the signed contract via fax or scanning it and sending it back via email.
August 4th, 2007 at 6:33 am
Jay,
Do you for see in the coming days drastic changes to the current list? With thousands of names still being evaluated, I have noticed over the period of a few days, some of the domains are changing ranks. I assume some are being added and dropped. Is there going to be some huge change that we should brace for?
UPDATE BY JAY: I don’t see any huge changes, several small ones. Less then 40 things.
August 4th, 2007 at 8:44 am
My ability to change reserve prices seems to not work anymore, please check into.
UPDATE BY JAY: You can change the reserve price on any domain except for domains that have been confirmed. So if you have a confirmed domain the only option is to pull the domain out of the auction.
August 4th, 2007 at 10:07 am
Jay, I am currently out of the country for the next week, and have several domains on the prelim auction list. Will you be emailing the contracts? If so, great! If not, how do I get in touch with you to make other arrangements, as I will not be near my office fax machine.
Great work, btw, on this auction. This is the future!
MrHit
UPDATE BY JAY: yes, we will be emailing the contract.
August 4th, 2007 at 10:27 am
Hi Jay,
Is there still a chance that domains “pending review” might make the auction?
Sandy
August 4th, 2007 at 10:40 am
Hi Jay,
Ok, I was trying to avoid adding to your workload. I really did not want to post more comments for you to read. But your answer that only about 40 more names might make the list makes me wonder if you are done looking at names. I had one name that was pending and I when I lowered the reserve it said confirmed. But since then I added two other names and because of problems I had while entering the descriptions, I removed the confirmed name and then relisted it with the other two. But I noticed that none of the names show being reviewed or confirmed now. To sum it up, I just want to know if you are still looking at the names, or is it over? If my names are not good enough to make it, I can accept that. But I hope they at least get looked at. I have already spent my thousands to attend the show, that won’t change whether my names make it or not. But they were submitted the 1st time weeks ago. And even though I added domains and lowered reserves, I just want a decision, good or bad. Thanks for all the good work. I’m glad I didn’t have your job with all of us complaining. Again thanks and I hope to see you at the show.
Wayne Moore
UPDATE BY JAY: We are mostly removing domains that are more then questionable, then filling the holes. I looked at your 4 names, and the reserves are low but the score is overture of zero and the Google results are below 30,000. So I am afraid they don’t make the cut. If you have to explain the term, then often it is harder to sell in a general auction.
August 4th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
Hi Jay,
Thanks for the quick reply and for explaining part of how you figure things.

August 4th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
Hi Jay,
I had submitted a domain which has been under “pending review” status for sometime now. Not sure if you had a chance to look at it. I guess there would be many other domains in the same status. Just curious, would you be looking at all the names before finalizing the list or would it be kind of first come first served. Thanks.

I too am afraid it’s going to end up leaning towards first-come, first-served… since as I understand it the cut-off for submissions is the 6th, the list is finalized on the 6th, and contracts go out on the 6th.
Looking forward to updates as this comes to an end,
Diana

I listed mine July 20 and they are still unreviewed, so I don’t think it’s a first-come, first served thing unless there were many, many before that date.

I’m pretty sure that helps put a lot of us at ease about the status. Best wishes to you for your domain(s), too!

Does the “try a lower reserve” note take into account the number of domains in a “Lot”. For example, I submitted 28 domains (regd 1997, all closely related) with a price of $149,000 which is $5,321 per domain. Given the type-in traffic and investment and/or development appeal of these 28 names I think $5321 per domain is reasonable. I have previously sold individual domains from this group for over 3 times that. Anyway, I know you are ultra-busy, but if you find time to review my 4 submissions that would be greatly appreciated. (And my suggestion for a website code tweak is divide the Reserve by the number of domains in the Lot when determining the algorithm for the “try a lower reserve” message

Hello,
I am a complete amateur in the domain name world but have some good domain names:
dubaiproperty.com
dubaiproperties.com
webcv.com (and lots more)
Thanks,
Joe
UPDATE BY JAY: Joe your reserve is HUGE. They would not sell at that price.
August 5th, 2007 at 4:03 am
Hi joeking - With names like DubaiProperty/ies that should’nt be too hard to find !
SWEEEET !!!
.
August 5th, 2007 at 4:05 am
I’ve checked the threads but can’t find out the definition of “unconfirmed” in the status field. Can anyone help? I submitted legends.com (752 rank, $200K reserve) only a few days ago so I assume I am just late to the dance.
August 5th, 2007 at 6:19 am
Since today is Aug. 5th and you stated that on the 6th the auction list will be locked, should we assume that domains that have been submitted but are still saying “Unconfirmed” “pending review” are just out of luck?

my submission TheBestCompanies.com has not been reviewed or confirmed yet. Are you just not going to be able to get to every domain submitted? It seems to have a decent score, better than some currently on the list. Just curious if it will make it.

Hey Jay,
If you get a moment, could you please take a quick look at my three domains?
You can either do it while wearing your flip-flops.com or kick them off and do it in your barefeet.com. Just don’t get distracted by the modelportfolios.com.
Thanks!
Dan

Perhaps checking out the auction on prince edward island at lot13.com (657) while listening to a rockintune.com (580), presented by musicworks.biz (710).
pending review.
August 5th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Jay’s probably enjoying a well-deserved canadabrew.com or a canadabeer.com. (I’m keeping the eurobrew.com for myself!)
August 5th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Hi red-fox, I think CanadaBrew.com is your strongest domain and I’m pleased for you it seems to have made the cut. I’d be careful with CanadaBeer.com, as it’s very close to the Molson Breweries “Canadian Beer” trademark, which they rigorously defend. Good luck with the Brew.
August 5th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Hi Jay,
Do you think:
lockmail.com
showgram.com
wecanmeet.com
Can make it into the auction? Low reserves, good names!! Very old!
Thanks
August 5th, 2007 at 4:03 pm
Skyhound
Do those names show “Eligible for Auction” or “Pending Review?”
It’s starting to look like of lot of good names will not be reviewed. They probably received a lot more than they thought. I have some pretty fair names that still show “Pending Review” Such as:
Canoodle.com
PrimeLodging.com
PlusWear.com
CostController.com
Vocal.biz
Computing101.c0m
LaptopForum.com
BargainTree.com
PersonalGain.com
MomAndApplePie.com
The list goes on and on. If they are not good enough, say so. All I and, perhaps you, want is a review.
Anyway, this should be good for the industry no matter what. We shall see.
UPDATE BY JAY: We are reviewing lists. We are not updating the “Pending Review” note. In the next option we will do that more.
August 5th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
I am anxious to see the final list. I hope it isn’t too much to ask to take a sneak peak at what I submitted. I only ask because 6 of the names have been confirmed for about a week now or so. However just a few days ago those 6 stayed confirmed but had their auction status changed to “Eligible for auction”. I was wondering if any would make the cut or a select few of the other nice ones that are pending.

Jay,
One last attempt with my domains of CamperLinks.com, now on reserve at $12,000 and ConservativeCamp.com on reserve at $10,000. Both are older names, 2002 and 2003 respectively, CamperLinks.com dominates it’s keyword bracket in Google, and ConservativeCamp.com are in a high range in Google under those keyword terms. In fact, ConservativeCamp.com which was live at one time, has several referrals and links still to it, and is #50 as a parked page out of 2.3 million, and is ranked on my control panel with a 606 score. CamperLinks, parked, also has many external links to it from when it was live and is, I believe, at score of 616. I think these reserves should be good enough, but then again, maybe not. This was my last try at getting what you would consider a good reserve set for both names, so I guess you just need to make the final decision. I would love to see one or both in, but if not yet, good luck, and maybe next time, huh?
Best regards,
BobbyD43

About 117 domains are currently on the list at $1,000 reserve. My 11 (including bundled) are at $1,000 unreviewed, unconfirmed, with no intention of raising the reserve. I like bidding wars
and with online real-time bidding available in addition to the in-person Roundtable attendees, believe the buyers will push any that “make the cut” up to a reasonable end cost.
It will be interesting to see how many are left on the “final” list with $1,000 reserve.
Jay’s done a spectacular job of building suspense - is the 6th 12:01AM or 11:59PM, any ideas?
August 5th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
Jay:
I removed allergypill.com because I was worried about the reserve beign too low. I have resubmited the name with, yes, a much higher reserve, but still worth it I believe. The name has real potential as a retail sale, so I did not want to lose it for a low amount. Please check it out (It’s back to pending review) and add if you like, thanks.

canoodle.com what a COOL domain!!!

Jay, similar with healthyheart.com, it has been resubmitted, take it if you like, has huge retail potential.

Only very small changes since the last days, I think (?) most things are done, even if I know the “unconfirmed” names well, too
August 6th, 2007 at 12:25 am
This name is still “pending review”. Though it’s not a .com, I believe it might just make a decent addition to the auction:
paper.info
The score is 789. Just wanted to get some eyeballs on it, so that it might at least get human reviewed.
Thanks a lot!
Josh
August 6th, 2007 at 12:32 am
@josh:
Sure you will get a good price for paper.info -> great name!
If not in this auction, in another!
Good luck for all with pending reviews and names, which are confirmed for the auction also !

I have found this entire process to be an exciting experience. This was a “first” for me and I don’t find many “firsts” at my age of 52. I submitted four names, BerkshireCandle.com (Score 595), BerkshireCandles.com (Score 593), InternetsTopTen.com (Score 580) and OBKB.net (Score 723). My guess is that none of these have or will make the cut, but that’s OK, because I learned a great deal and hopefully I will have the chance to make the cut at another time.
Best of luck to all those that did make the cut!

“The list will be frozen and locked August 6th. No further changes will take place on that date.”
Any idea when the final list is to be published?

UPDATE BY JAY: Midnight tonight (Aug 6th)
August 6th, 2007 at 8:55 am
Hi! Now I have seen some changes. Sure that Jay will inform us, when the final list is ready. Best regards
August 6th, 2007 at 9:10 am
Hi Jay,
I see that Google has a listing of 1,900,000 Google hits but I don’t have the overture stats. I updated in my account in the remarks to reflect this.
Are you looking at the value of the domain name for is Keywords and market value as the domain only or as it stands in the search engine and business earnings? If it is business earnings, I haven’t optimized the potential but then again, I wouldn’t be sell/auction the domain name but a business at that point and that changes the ball game!
Again, I am not sure why GotMuscles.com is in, when it gets 20,700 Google Hits (score 454) versus FloridaSwingers.com (score 652). Or MadisonHousing.com, which is a VERY area specific domain name but Florida is a larger area. Again, I understand somewhere you have to draw the line but it appears that it is X customers/member first before an outsider is let in.
Eagerly awaiting your response…
Sincerely,
UPDATE BY JAY: It is not only Domains but the reserve prices that are attached. If you would lower FloridaSwingers.com it may be more attractive.

how often do they update the list? my names are still unconfirmed..anyway good luck all..nice to see some non-com names make it to the auction also.
August 6th, 2007 at 12:16 pm
Hi, I just became aware of this auction. I submitted two great domains: GoAlaska.com, and FairbanksAlaska.com. I hope they are selected… Thanks!
UPDATE BY JAY: FairbanksAlaska.com is on the list. Congratulations.
August 6th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
@itzwyla:
I could not tell you how often the website is updated, but I think that the final working is going on for the next hours, so just take a look sometimes.
I recognize changes in the website very fast, because I do vote for each domain name, so I could easily see new names, which do not have any votes from me after an update
Best regards and good luck

Good luck 907group! Many of us on this forum have submitted good dot com names some weeks ago, In many instances our control panel still shows the domains as “pending review”. Since the final list goes live tonight, I don’t know how realistic it is at this point to submit new names when they have such a tremendous backlog to review.

*shocked* here. Not at the name, but the quickness of the addition.

Yet, mine were reviewed enough over a week ago to say 3 were too new, and I removed those immediately. All the others are still pending/unconfirmed. Reserves too high? Bad names? Something I could change? I have no idea because I have received no other feedback. Listed since July 20. I’m glad I got exposed to the possibility even if I don’t get in, as now I’m aware of other live auction opportunities. But, gee, sure wish one would get in!
UPDATE BY JAY: We bubble good names straight to the top of our review control panel. So we see when good stuff is added. If a domain has average ratings it is not likely to get in. We are looking for the very best domains.

I found this late in the game, just a few days ago. Submitted my *best* names not knowing for sure what they were looking for. Still even the pending/unconfirmed, sad because some feedback would have been helpful, agreed … was sure realcallgirl(s)/.com/.net lot was worth it, but I’m learning still. This is brand new to me & I am so thankful to find it & gain awareness of other live auction possibilities, too. All-in-all, a wonderful creation by Jay & learning experience for the rest like me/us.
I’m still looking forward the the final list, even if my favorites don’t make it. A bit sad, but still excited for all the ones that do get in!

Hi Jay, The high point of my day was around 10:00 am this morning when CanadaBrew.com/.net reached its all-time high position at #441 and its sibling CanadaBeer.com/net followed behind at #445. But an hour later everything changed. By 11:00, CanadaBeer had slipped to #449, by 12:15 it was hanging onto #450, and by 2:20 it was gone! This was especially disappointing since this name was included in the first list of 450 names and had hovered around the last few names ever since.
Now I’ve decided to play my trump card in order to stay in the game … I’ve dropped the reserve on SpiritBear.net to $2,000!! This inhabitant of the Great Bear Rainforest is the official mammal of British Columbia. The name now shows as confirmed and eligible for the auction.

Hi Jay,
I know it’s getting close to final cutoff, is there any chance of reviewing my list of 4 submissions for the auction:
qvo.com (low reserve!)

cdz.com (and related)
Bulk lot of 28 FM domains (101fm.com etc, regd 1997)
All the best,

when u say the list will be frozen on the 6th / today until what times can i submit names pst on the 6th to be considered
also how do i change my phone number contact detail

I lowered reserve on two of my submissions:
QVO.COM is *very* affordable reserve now
I receive “3 letter buyer” emails every month offering to purchase QVO for more than the reserve is now set.
I also lowered the bulk Lot of 28 FM domains to $99,000 (i.e. below the $100,000 threshold) so that the “try a lower reserve” message is no longer an issue
It’s a great targeted type-in traffic bundle, all registered in 1997

If my reserve price matters then I wish I had known that earlier because I actually raised my reserves because I saw the note about wanting names that are worth at least $5000. So I changed my $1000 reserves to $5000. I guess that was a mistake.

Amazing to see that there are still a bunch of really poor names in the auction, some at totally ridiculous prices. I’ve lowered reserves on my best domains by half but at this stage I’m not too hopeful, especially since late names are getting in quickly and even they have somewhat debatable value.
August 6th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Hmm. There are a number of domains in the list that also don’t make the age cutoff limit - and they are not even exceptional names. Have you relaxed the rules at the last minute without telling us? There are some of us that have great names which are after the cutoff that we didn’t submit because we respected your rules…
Oh well - I guess one can only hope. I’ve watched Moniker make many mistakes and I sure hope that Domaintools will set them straight and introduce some real competition into the domain name market…
August 7th, 2007 at 12:44 am
first .mobi also in now
@all:
I am sure that Jay and team have plans for new auctions, too!
So do not be too sad, if you do not make the cut with your domains and keep on watching Domaintools
August 7th, 2007 at 2:13 am
Ah well, it was a tough job for them - I see names in there that were just registered, so I guess they had to bend the rules, pretty sad. I suppose I would be more understanding if at least they stuck to their guns about the 3 year minimum.
Hopefully the next time around they will have everything settled up front.
UPDATE BY JAY: The domains that appear younger then 3 years old are actually older. They were dropped and picked up again. That is allowed, and yes they are older then 3 years.
August 7th, 2007 at 2:24 am
@ted: I have also thought so with a few names, but as I have checked it more exactly I have seen that it have been Catch / Drops.
Of course I have looked not at the complete list.
Could you give me an example?
Thanks
August 7th, 2007 at 6:45 am
On balance I was surprised to see so little change over the last few days in arriving at the final list. There still seem to be some quite odd selections (the best out of 100,000s submitted?). How could you let potential trademark violations like HummerRentals.com stay in the auction? We always slag the media for continuing to lump domain investors in with cybersquatting, and this sort of thing in a mainstream auction doesn’t help. Good luck anyway, let’s see what sells and what doesn’t.
UPDATE BY JAY: Authorized resellers and rental companies are allowed to own domains. That would not be a trademark violation. The bar is very low for a rental company.
August 7th, 2007 at 7:11 am
I didn’t notice where Jay said a catch/drop would be allowed. Under that criteria I have more names that could have been listed.
Anyhow, it’s done and over and I hope that they have a successful auction - I have moved on to the GreatDomains auction and will see what happens there - I really should be doing the gambling domains auction but I don’t have a lot of confidence in Moniker who is handling those.
August 7th, 2007 at 7:16 am
Jay,
or anyone else, how does one get notice by overture and google to get a score?
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: Use the word break and type in the keywords at Google with quotes around them. For Overture visit, http://inventory.overture.com/. The site is often down and very unstable.
August 7th, 2007 at 7:21 am
Hi ted30329,
whats the link to the GreatDomains auction and why don’t have confidence in Moniker? because Moniker is where I was going to go next, since I was not chosen for this auction, only because someone had reference them before.
Thanks
August 7th, 2007 at 7:32 am
Hi Jay,
Thanks for the information… Well, though the list is finalized, I have reduced the price. I would think that FloridaSwingers.com would command a reserve of $10k but thinking about it, maybe not. Again, it might be best to buy a dating application place it on the site and let it roll, then sell the site as a business.

Hello Jay
I submitted a dozen names yesterday, many of them with high scores, but I don’t see any of them in the final auction list. I am wondering whether they were even considered. Please confirm. Thanks.

I submitted names weeks ago and all still say unconfirmed/pending review. I thought I had updated all my info including phone and paypal but apparently I missed something somewhere. I thought a few of them were pretty good, but could just be MHO.

Assuming this is the final list, I must say some of it is quite disappointing. For a list of 450 names, the % of names that seem to not belong is sort of high.
I admit there are a good % of top quality names in the auction. I just question the 20% - 30% that seem to not really fit. I’ve seen some of the submissions people say didn’t make it & with confidence I’d say many would agree they belonged considering what did.
The screening process seems a little questionable in my honest opinion.
GL to everyone though.
August 7th, 2007 at 2:20 pm
@chetmedical1 -
The GreatDomains auction is actually being run by Sedo - if you have domain names listed there, you can select the action “Premium Auction” when performing a change on your list of names.
As for Moniker, they were very poorly organized for the CAC auction in Amsterdam recently - the submit process didn’t work, then when people found out it was too late - and as a result a ton of horrible names made the list. I am willing to bet they didn’t move anywhere near 10% of the list, though two huge names went (Scores.com was the biggest at 1.2 million).
Then when I submitted for the next auction, which admittedly was not a gambling name auction, I was told to lower reserves on domains I knew were easily worth more than what I had listed them for. Even then the process was disorganized - so as a result I don’t have much confidence in their processes, though I will admit that they are still a leader in the industry and make a lot of money for themselves and the domain owners.
The screening process here went badly wrong, I’d say, though to be fair they had a ton of names and with some people submitting their entire portfolios they really had a mountain to climb. My names aren’t A+, grant.com is way better - but they are probably A-B for gambling names.

I was surprised to see a .mobi make the auction, since, obviously it was only registered in 2006..no drop could possibly have occurred.
August 8th, 2007 at 11:06 am
Thanks ted30329,
I am new to business and have learned a lot within the pass few days. I came across it by accident, a few years ago I got an offer an offer for frz.com but I never took it seriously but wanting money for a new venture I looked into selling it and so got it appraised twice because I did not believe the first one, long story short, this is another business I am going to get into. From a non-expert I thing youh ave some good names, thanks again and good luck.
I am going to make a suggestion to Jay about how I think he should conduct the auction so newb’s like me don’t feel like they are being set up to lose their domain for less than it’s worth by him requesting low reserve.
August 8th, 2007 at 11:54 am
Jay,
I know it’s your show but if I could make a suggetion for the next auction:
A month before you send out emails to all members that on such a date submission will begin for the next auction and would last for 20 days.
You then setup a blog site only for submission of domain names (you can place a limit on the number of names) also only you and each member would know the reserve price, So no member would have to write to find out it thier name made it because it would be up to them to ensure they get their name on the list.
You can limit the number of names to 1 per submission or an over all total of say a 1000.
The next 10 days people with names on the list have to submit appraisal value to match at least have their reserve price, if it don’t then they are off the list. (with the potential money to be made I am sure each of us would spend the 20-30 dollars for an appraisal)
On the day of the auction, first name up @!.com any interest please place a bid (wait 30 sec) no interest gone, next name
mygreatdomain.com, (reserve is 7000)1 bidder 5000, 2nd bidder 5500
no more bidding, you announce the reserve have not being met so it can’t be sold, the owner have the option at the end of the auction to accept the highest bid if the buyer still wants to buy.
alternatively, if the reserve was met then the domain would go to the highest bidder.
You then go on until the end of the auction.
This does 2 things, it let the sellers who’s domain did sell know the market does not support their reserve and they will have to adjust for the next time.
I only suggest this because from what I have read on the blog (and it may not be your intention)that members were being set up to lose their domain for less than it’s worth by you requiring low reserve.
I am no expert but the only thing I can compare it to is real estate (something I am familiar with. If I am going to auction a house I am not going to start off lower than any mortgage that’s owed or less than an appraised value hoping they bid up to either, thats too risky, they might not get there and I would walk away leaving a lot of money on the table.
I had appraised value that supported my reserve, I would accept less but thats for me and the market place to determine, true capitalism at it’s best.
You and other members are probably thinking I am nuts but this is from someone who is new to the game and only want to see it get better for the benefit of all of us.
August 8th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
Jay - Am i too late? today I submitted metabolizers.com - this could be a winner!…especially in the dieting industry.
Thanks
Tim
UPDATE BY JAY: Yeah, you will need to wait for the next auction.
August 10th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
The new domain additions will draw a lot of positive attention and interest to the auction. Good work!
August 11th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
I don’t get how my domains remained unincluded and unconfirmed. I submitted them almost a month ago and have now watched the deadline come and go while they all remain”unconfirmed”
Many scored 640, 650, 680. every one of the 20 in your range actually. naturefreak.com along with .org, .net, .biz and others seem a natural when treehugger.com (site) just sold to Discovery.
A few were marked as too new, so obviously someone looked at them. Can someone explain how prioritization happened? I read this page of comments and it’s not clear. I was asked for my phone number at one point, gave it, and still nothing.
Obviously my sour grapes is from wanting to be included in what looks to be a great event and opportunity.
best regards,
Mg
