Rumors are running around that there is a $50 Million dollar sale pending on Pharmacy.com. Leah Messinger of the Red Herring said the sale could be as close as 6 weeks away. The firm that is brokering the domain is FairWinds out of DC. They have sent out approximately 100 emails to potential buyers, letting them know the domain is coming available and letting them know the price. FairWinds has emailed pharmacy chains, retailers such as Wal-Mart and Costco, and websites such as Drugstore.com. There is no doubt that Prescription Drugs are worth a lot of money online.
Companies like Drugstore.com have turned their noses down at the notice. They think they have a good name and didn’t think it was worth buying another really good one. CVS Pharmacy as the buyer makes the most sense. I am not sure why CVS is even in the title of the company. If this company is the buyer, I suspect they will re-brand all their stores to Pharmacy.com.
Sometimes it only makes sense to have one name, and getting that name is not about the upfront money. It is about what the brand will yield for decades to come. When this sale closes it most likely will not be disclosed to the public what the purchase price was but you will notice the domain changes hands.

There is no existing business associated with it or search ranking in a hyper competitive SEO-ed space. I see this going for $10 million maximum. Which is being generous somewhat trusting your rumour figure.

Anyway, I agree. Names of this caliber ARE worth these numbers. If not today, then tomorrow.. it’s only a matter of time.

PHARMACY.COM is a great generic name like GIFTCARD.COM or FLOWERS.COM
It’s undoubtedly worth millions to a company that wants and needs to establish online Rx name recognition.
For anyone interested, CVS is the initials for Consumer Value Stores, their original name. CVS CareMark is now the second largest retailer in the USA. I don’t think they will be changing their name to pharmacy.com anytime soon. Neither will Walgreen’s or WalMart. These three chains have invested Billions of dollars to build their Brand Names all across the USA, online and on their vanity phone numbers.
Does anyone agree with me?

I think it is worth $100 million. In the near future everyone will use pharmacy.com to get their drugs. You can take that to the bank.

I have a severe problem with this domain not being monetized while it is up for sale. If the name is a 8-figure valued name, surely it’s worthwhile to put it on a parking site (if not a psuedo developed site) while it’s being marketed for sale.
This either tells me that the broker is either dumb or dispictably cunning. They are dumb for not knowing to monetizing the site while they have control. Or, they might be dispictably cunning if their intentions are to keep the domain owner in the dark of it’s real traffic and possible monetization potential, while marketing their .
Is Fairwinds this dumb? Or, are they cunning? Either way, shame on the broker for not monetizing.
UPDATE BY JAY: A highly generic domain like this may make $10,000 a month. I don’t think $10,000 a month is much when you are trying to market it for 8 figures. I think a parking page would be worse when trying to sell this.
