Autobiography.com for $179,000

AutobiographyOne of the best domains in my opinion in the upcoming auction is Autobiography.comAutobiography.com. For this reserve price it would be a down right steal. The book business is huge online and Amazon has proven it. To own this domain name forever at a renewal cost of $7 per year is going to seem down right silly to the accountant that is auditing the books a decade from now.

For a book publisher that specializes in selling Autobiographies it would be fantastic to start a new division with the name of that division, “Autobiography.comAutobiography.com” on the spine of the book of every autobiography they sell. There are just so many uses for the domain, it has that built in marketing that very few generic domain names have on a level like this one.

Will Amazon or BN.comBN.com be bidding? BN.comBN.com has shown they understand the Internet by buying a two character domain, so I have a feeling they will be looking at this domain. However there are many publishing houses that may come for this one as well.

To bid on the domain, go to DomainTools Live auction for more information.

I thought this would be a good domain for WordPress MultiUser.

    $179,000?!

Great reserve price. I see a bidding war in the near future.

You think that’s a good price, check out the low reserve for LoveStories.comLoveStories.com at only 100k. Yes, it’s my domain. I must be crazy to let it go at that price! But, I’m in a dealin’ mood these days. Even comes with a Federal mark!

  4. emailtastesfunny Says:

    Yeah, mrhit,

I think that’s also a great reserve price. With these two domains alone…PUBLISHING HOUSES NEED TO BE AT THIS AUCTION! I rarely use caps…but I felt it needed it. Which brings up a question.

Jay, are you sending out press releases? For the two mentioned domains I think a quick press release to would draw up some interest outside of just ‘domainers’. Or is it up to the domain holders to send out press releases. If it’s up to domain holders, mrhit, get those press releases out now! Draw up some interest to those who may have no idea that lovestories.comlovestories.com is available for a 100k reserve. Autobiograpy.comAutobiograpy.com and lovestories.comlovestories.com should be in the radar of some major publishing houses.

Jay, really hope you put some of the staff on sending out some press releases for the domains you’ve been featuring. I really think that it would help the people auctioning, and for the auction itself. If this is going to be annual event….damn, the 3 you mentioned in your last blog spurt, you have enough here to start shouting and screaming about this auction!

Best of luck to you guys! I’m really excited for you!

Would love to see OrlandoTravel.comOrlandoTravel.com make a release as well. It has the best rating of all the Travel/Vacations sites by far and it would help peak the interest of investors in that category as well.

Actually, autobiography (as it pertains to publishing) is somewhat passe and stodgy; right now, “memoir” is THE buzz word in publishing. A hot memoir that focuses on an interesting aspect of someone’s life (rather than a book about an entire life, which tends to be dull and dry, even for celebs) is enough to get a publisher’s and readers’ blood rushing.

You can bet that Paris Hilton (with the help of a ghostwriter, of course) will write a memoir about her time in jail and the events leading up to it. And people will buy it. Would they read her autobiography (from birth until now)? I doubt it. Readers want DISH, and autobiographies tend to lack those delicious tidbits.

Of course, “autobiography” is still a good word, given that trends change every other day. But when one thinks of autobiography, they think of dusty old books, sans DISH, about esoteric writers, opera singers, politicians, etc.

However, we shall see; the bidders will speak with their money, no?

Let me tell you, I’d LOVE to have the domain Memoir.comMemoir.com–I could actually use that one, as opposed to just parking it! (Drool!)

One more thing: I had it all wrong when I was getting title domains for my books; I should have been going after generics.

Thank you, Jay, for helping me to get the mental wheels rolling because I was able to snag some great memoir domains, and I WILL use these domains for my professional writing purposes and not just parking and speculation.

Each day, I’m learning more and more, and I plan to keep educating myself in this “word” field.

    Best, jss

If there is a press release, be sure to include the best deal on the list: HomeSites.comHomeSites.com, .biz, AND .info (plus homesite.infohomesite.info thrown in for good measure) for an amazing low reserve – under $50k! The Real Estate folks and the Web Sites moguls can start a bidding war over this one!

  9. cybertonic Says:

I am not sure that Autobiography.comAutobiography.com be the best name for a book publisher that specializes in selling Autobiographies.
As you said it yourself the best is Autobiographies.comAutobiographies.com for that purpose!

Now it’s a nice premium domain, I just feel the reserve is a bit high.

    <SNIP> (please stay on topic)

I do think that autobiography.comautobiography.com will do well, but I suspect the buyer will be someone who do a sort of online encyclopedia of autobiographies already published. I do believe that the singular of a word is mostly a better choice.

    Best, jss

UPDATE BY JAY: Please no self promotion.

  11. punkeydoodles Says:

I think autobiography.comautobiography.com could be a great alternative to Wikipedia. Wikipedia discourages autobiographical submissions and usually deletes them as a conflict of interest (COI):

“COI editing involves contributing to Wikipedia in order to promote yourself or the interests of other individuals, companies, or groups.”

autobiography.comautobiography.com could actually fill a hole in the market that Wikipedia has left wide open. Hopefully the new owners will be able to build a useful site without it becoming full of wikispam.

Great domain, will definately do well IMHO.
Only thing I’m wondering is due to the current YouTube era we are in right now, if channels like biograhpy.tvbiograhpy.tv or autobiography.tvautobiography.tv are worth even more, or or regular book selling sites always more popular?
