Domain Roundtable Auction Process

DomainTools is holding a Live Domain Auction on August 15th this year. The auction will take place on the last day of the Domain Roundtable Conference. The process to submit domains is going live this week so keep an eye out for more details. The auction will be broadcast live on the Internet but the best view will be on the auction floor in Seattle. Everyone is free to bid online or in-person and there is no fee to attend the auction or bid on a domain.
First off, the Commission is 10% from the seller. Not 30% or 20% like other auction houses charge. A flat 10%. For the buyer, they pay only what they bid, there will be no premiums on top of the sale. For anyone that buys over $50,000 in domain names, the whole conference is on us. We will reimburse the buyer for the conference. Likewise, any seller that earns over $50,000 will have his conference fees reimbursed. Its like extra money in your pocket for being a high roller.
Next on the list, we are only having one live auction. There will be no silent auctions afterwards. Industry titans will be in the room bidding on these domains so there will be a lot of action. Reserve prices that are too high will be penalized by our ranking system and may not make it into the auction. The platform will be open to everyone and all domains will be live for people to see the changes as they happen. Only the top 450 domains according to our rank will make into the auction. The top 450 will only improve as more domains get added.
We have a few criteria for being in our auction:
- Only dotcom domains. (Very few exceptions will be made)
- Reserve must at least $1,000. If your name is not worth at least $1,000 then you will not be in our auction.
- Only 450 domains will make the cut off.
- Three words is the cut off. One and two word domains will get higher priority in the queue.
- Domain must be older than three years old.
- Domain must be valued at over $5,000 by DomainTools staff (evaluation is free and part of the submission process).
- Only 20 domains in the whole auction can have a reserve set over $100K. In the New York auction we saw that only 16 names sold for over $100K. If you want action be prepared to lower your reserve and let the titans duke it out for your domain.
I am very excited to reveal our auction platform this year at the Domain Roundtable. We will be pumping in lots of stats into the system about each domain name and it should be fun to look over the list as it changes. We want everyone to be able to spots the gems and for the Market to decide the value of those gems. If an auction is run smoothly and efficiently the industry benefits. It makes the market more liquid and that is a good thing for everyone.

Do sellers have to be present? Just asking because I have at least one domain that could sell well–I’ve had it for 5 years (never used, although I had good intentions at the time), but I must go to an important family event that week.
Best, jss
UPDATE BY JAY: Sellers do not need to be present. But if you can’t make it, you can watch online as well.

Jay, it sounds like you are well on your way to producing the best auction platform the industry has seen. I am looking forward to being a part of this upcoming auction, and I wish you the greatest success.

Add ” 3rd party unbiased Independent Auditing”
and you have the best “Domain format” presented in the Industry so far..
Either double the : “Only 20 domains in the whole auction can have a reserve set over $100K”
Or in the alternative ensure the Auction takes place more often , I believe there is that “type” of demand…
Best of Luck.
Robert.
UPDATE BY JAY: Robert, Very good suggestion for 3rd party unbiased auditing. We will have some much transparency I hope there is no question we are far. For example, if I personally bid on something that would mean I have a 10% dollar edge on the buyer. I will waive any transaction fees on domains that I buy or any employee of DomainTools buys.
If the demand is there, we will fill it. You can count on that.
July 2nd, 2007 at 8:46 am
I really think adding (Independent Auditors) it will take the Auction to a new standard or level of comfort.
So far domainer’s concerns have been ignored in this sense…
Where there is “big money” there is “big temptations” it happen even at the allegdely best:
eG: Price-fixing Scandals at Christie’s and Sotheby’s
(BTW: Thanks for the editing)

Jay, some well thought out ideas. I didn’t see anything in your post about a contract and terms though. Is there a contract that sellers will have to sign? If so what is the time commitment? Other places lock you down for months.
Also, “Reserve prices that are too high will be penalized by our ranking system and may not make it into the auction”. How will you be determining if reserve prices are too high? Are you going to be doing appraisals to determine this ?
btw Moniker uses independent people to go through their submission lists, at least that’s what I was told by someone there.
UPDATE BY JAY: We are not going to lock people into contracts for months. This should be a free market so people are free to come and go after the auction is over and no one bid on the domain.
The algorithm will be important for getting into the auction, but it will be humans that adjust it and determine if reserve prices are too high.

Jay has every right to use his own well developed criteria and should not have to be bullied to modify his business plan.
If a potential seller does not like the Domaintools criteria, then he/she does not have to list any domains or buy any domains.
Jay, don’t change your business model just because a few people want you to.
Good luck. I’ll be submitted a group of names.
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:21 am
This looks like capitalism at its best! Good luck with the sale, and I’ll keep tabs on your upcoming announcement.
Best, Jennifer

what is the reason for not allowing 3 years or younger names? A great domain name is a great domain…what does the amount of years have to do with anything…if someone finds or found a diamond good for him or her (today or three years ago)why not allow seller and buyer to have the chance to buy or sell it.
all I can see is this cuts out anyone who is new to industry.
if there is something Im missing it is cause I’m still learning
thanks
ryjo
UPDATE BY JAY: The reason for the ban on domains younger then three years is that I have analyzed domain sales and know that Vintage 2005, 2006 and 2007 names sell for far less then 1991-2004 names. In the last auction only three domains were older then 2004 and they all fetched lower then $10,000. This auction will be for some ultra good generics and I want to encourage people not to submit new names. Let those new names grow some mold before we auction them off.
July 3rd, 2007 at 1:58 am
> Everyone is free to bid online/offline and there is no fee to attend
> the auction or bid on a domain.
I imagine you are going to vet/register the buyers beforehand ?
Otherwise it’s certain that ebay-type fake bids will ruin your auction.
UPDATE BY JAY: Yes, I will be personally looking through the top 450 domains that sit on the top and verifying ownership history. For people that submit names that they do not own I will be banning them from the auction and DomainTools.
July 3rd, 2007 at 6:57 am
Regarding the domain age clause, I do understand that younger domains tend to have relatively lower resale potential - but I do propose that the domain age variable be incorporated into the shortlisting process/algorithm itself rather than having an arbitrary cutoff registration date like ‘only domains three years or older are eligible’.
I think this would give high-quality but relatively younger domains a fair chance of being shortlisted for the auction and thus improve the overall quality of the auction.
UPDATE BY JAY: It is possible the domain got picked up on a drop. If it did, we know. But for domains that had a fresh registration date we are sticking to our guns and not allowing them.
July 3rd, 2007 at 9:01 am
Your criteria will exclude dot.mobi names - are you willing to make exceptions for quality ones (parking, scores, etc.) with low reserves in the $5K - $10K range?
UPDATE BY JAY: Domains from New TLDs are eligible, they will be one word domains and have a low reserve price no higher then $5K. I would expect words like Travel.Eu and Hotels.EU to fetch $200,000. So if we see those we will admit them with no problems.
July 3rd, 2007 at 6:40 pm
My Dear Sir Jay hi ,
do ye consider adultfriend.com
this kind of ad-ult[adult] related properties ??
currently adultfriend.com’s just only parked at domainsponsor ,
sorry for ‘the shameless plug ,
because we need to be so specific
in order to not waste any time in ‘the submission ,
ThANKye
UPDATE BY JAY: AdultFriend.com is a good name. I would be glad to have that in the auction.
July 4th, 2007 at 12:10 am

please , next time do it @ NYC e.t.c. this kind o’ financial capitals,

July 5th, 2007 at 4:09 am
i’d like to submit the following non-coms:
feds.org
bienvenido.net
July 5th, 2007 at 10:46 am
“Domain must be valued at over $5,000 by DomainTools staff (evaluation is free and part of the submission process).”
If a seller submits a domain and it gets valued over $5K, will DomainTools inform the seller of the valuation before the auction?
And if so, may the seller withdraw the domain should the DT valuation not be inline with what he/she wants to sell for? (i.e. DT staff values $7K, but seller wants $15K) The concern, of course, is getting locked into selling something for an unsatisfactory base price.
UPDATE BY JAY: If the domain is worth $15K the market will decide that. It most cases at $15K domain will likely sell for $18K because of all the bidders. A reasonable reserve should be set to ensure nothing bad happens, however with all the bidders in the room do you really think that no one would bid on the name? Of course not. If it is worth it, people will bid on it. If people want to back out of the auction that is fine. But they will need to do so a week before the auction.
July 5th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
I’d like to submit this org:
clintoninitiative.org
July 5th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
We only have interest in selling names, why must be provide a payment method?
Thank you.
UPDATE BY JAY: This helps us identify serious people. Other auctions ask people to pay to submit domains. So consider just having a payment method on file as a good safe guard for everyone.
July 6th, 2007 at 12:05 am
How do we submit .net names? The submission page gives this error:
[domain].net has an invalid tld (.com only).
July 6th, 2007 at 4:30 am
Are any of these names eligible? I own them but all are under 3 years old!
HDR-IMAGES.COM
PLASMAVISION.TV
NUMBERONECREATIVE.COM
UNLOCKIT.EU
UNLOCKIT.BIZ
TELEPROMPTERS.US
WEBDESIGNSEOMARKETING.COM
WEBDESIGNWEBMARKETING.COM
WEBDESIGNERSPAIN.COM
PHOTOGRAPHY-SPAIN.COM
If i dont get a response I assume they are not what you need.
The auction sounds very exciting.
Good luck.
Debs
UPDATE BY JAY: No. But thanks for asking. You may submit names with the online interface. We will tell were you rank globally next week compared to everything else submitted.
July 6th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
Why specifically has your system not been allowing any more domain entries after only 30 names have been submitted ?
July 6th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Jay - thanks for fixing the submission page.
July 7th, 2007 at 1:21 am
Jay,
How is seller paid when an auction ends in a sale? Is it by the payment option in file? I would imagine that the seller could receive the payment by wire, right?
UPDATE BY JAY: It will be by check, wire transfer, or paypal.
July 7th, 2007 at 7:44 am
I have bunch of names related to the main name that i am willing to offer as part of the same auction. i think this will increase the bid in auction but i don’t see a way to add this in. For example, if i have example.com, i also have 10 other domains related such as myexample.com, exampl.com, example.net,us,org, theexample, e-xample,…
thanks,
Jonathan
UPDATE BY JAY: I think we should have a fix for that next week. You will be able to attach multiple smaller domains to one domain.
July 7th, 2007 at 8:52 am
Hello,
On the scoring system what is considered a decent score… Is the range from 0-1000 or 0-700?
What type of score do you think we will need to get placed in the top 450. Also are you accepting one word generic .mobi names.
Thanks
Don
July 7th, 2007 at 11:23 am
“I have bunch of names related to the main name that i am willing to offer as part of the same auction.”
I would like this feature as I have several pairs/sets I could offer up. I also have a US trademark for one domain. How would I go about adding that in?
UPDATE BY JAY: This is coming on Monday or Tuesday.
July 7th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
“This helps us identify serious people. Other auctions ask people to pay to submit domains. So consider just having a payment method on file as a good safe guard for everyone.”
Jay,
Thanks but no thanks - We have not had any business dealings with each other, and while I’m sure you are a fine and upstanding individual, my “safe guard” is to keep our financials to ourselves, as we’re “serious” about our information.
Best to you.
UPDATE BY JAY: If you are not able to put a payment method on file then I am sorry to say you will not be able to put domains in the auction.
July 8th, 2007 at 9:17 am
What a pity :0
I don’t wish to sign up for paypal subscription terms when I am not buying from your site.
I guess I will decline my submissions for your auction.
BTW I think your site is great.
Best of luck with your Auction!
UPDATE BY JAY: You may place Credit Card on file as well.
July 8th, 2007 at 9:53 am
I have no problem with the paypal verification. Domaintools.com bills me every month for my membership anyway. They are a reputable company and provide a great service. BTW, I submitted 7 sites yesterday, how will we know if they are confirmed or not. and how does the point system work? My domains rank for 520 to mid-six’s.
UPDATE BY JAY: The point system is not final yet. Expect to see some changes to scores next week around Friday.
July 8th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Hi-
Sorry for a newbie question but where can I find the DT’s automated evaluation system?
UPDATE BY JAY: There is no direct access to the system without posting a domain to the auction.
July 8th, 2007 at 3:15 pm
Would you mind clarifying the transfer and payment process please:
(1) How is the name transfer process to be handled ? is there a facility available for a domain name push or is a full transfer of any sold or purchased names required ? if so is the domain name held by domaintools until payment has been recieved by the vendor ? (push is very difficult at some registars Enom would be easy others such as Godaddy, moniker, netsol, etc would be difficult)
(2) Who is the Escrow service holding the funds for domain name payment and distribution of such funds, is it Domaintools ?
(3) when does the vendor of a sold name get paid ?
(4) Is it at all possible to use Escrow.com for any transactions ? (with a possible 50-50 split of the Escrow fee’s)
UPDATE BY JAY: (1) Name Intelligence the parent company is a fully accredited ICANN registrar. But we will try and use a registrar like eNom.
(2) DomainTools will be the escrow company
(3) The vendor gets paid after we have verified the transfer.
(4) We will be handling the escrow.
July 8th, 2007 at 3:27 pm
More questions:
Domains on sale, Traffic is there going to be verification of claimed traffic ? if so how is that to be determined, stats from actual PPC revenue, screen shots etc ? or is a name auctioned at face value only apart from what one maybe able to glean from alexa, link pop etc ?
Are multiple name submissions allowable as one lot example, .com .net .info etc or say the plural version together with the singular offered as one lot for one price for all ?
UPDATE BY JAY: If a claim is made we will be verifying the claim directly with the parking company. The owner can submit a claim, we will take that claim with their permission and ask the parking company to verify that the owner gave us correct information.
Yes, Multiple domain lots will be allowed.
July 8th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Hi,
I respect and appreciate that you have rules. I wonder if you will offer an auction that will include .net domains at some point.
I own a .net domain that is over 12 years old, I am the original and only owner. It is a 4 letter, generic domain name and it is the name of an animal.
Admittedly I am biased as to it’s worth (there are actually a couple of companies for which this domain is worth more than a ‘normal’ valuation). I would love to possibly enter this domain name in an auction.
I do also have a couple of .coms that might be considered to have some value.
RelatedResearch.com - 6 years old
TheColony.com - 12 years old
bearlicious.com/net/org - 7 years old
as well as a few other decent .com names.
Thanks!
UPDATE BY JAY: A dot net name may be submitted, but it must be extremely good to make it all the way to the auction.
July 9th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
Jay: How do these look?
LoveStories.com–I get a ton of interest in this domain on a weekly basis. Have turned down a number of very good, five-figure offers.
Hot.TV–with video content on the net going through the roof, this domain also gets a lot of interest from potential buyers.
MrHit
UPDATE BY JAY: MrHit: I love them!
July 10th, 2007 at 3:39 am
hi,
i have a domain call http://www.wikiImages.org i am going to sell it
UPDATE BY JAY: Suren, the rules state the domain must be 3 years old. That domain is only 1 year old. Sorry.
July 10th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Jay,
I submitted aplacetogo.com and it was accepted, and then I realized it was technically 4 words. Since it is so short, it is OK?
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: It is fine to submit, but don’t hold your breath on it making the cut.
July 10th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Hi, how do I get someone to consider my great dot org, “patient.org”? Dot Org is a natural for this, at least as good as the dot com. Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: I am personally reviewing the top 100 domains of every other extension. Your’s should make it.
July 10th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
When will the problem with deleting names be fixed, and when will the final list be created? Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: Fixed, and the 22nd of July
July 10th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
Sir,
Thank you for this opportunity. We do not see a submit opportunity for branded “lots” of names [CNOIB= .com .net .org .info .biz] to be sold as a group, so have entered each domain with an identical price. Based on previous comments here lots will be allowed, but is this the way to submit until an edit is available to us?
Best of luck with this. Thank you again.
UPDATE BY JAY: Martin, the lot function is now active.
July 11th, 2007 at 6:19 am
Hello Jay,
Where or how do we submit traffic and revenue data to justify reserves on some domains?
Thanks!
Chas
UPDATE BY JAY: There is a comment field. Put Revenue in there.
July 11th, 2007 at 7:46 am
I suggest adding a link to this page on the auction domain submission page.
It took me forever to find these requirements. They’re not listed in the site FAQ and there’s no Help page. I finally found a link to the site Blog.
Good luck with the auction,
Dotty
UPDATE BY JAY: It should be on the site now.
July 11th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Hi, I’m new to all of this (still soaking it all in). Is this domain eligible:
thisproductrocks.com
Charlie
UPDATE BY JAY: Three years. Created: 2006-08-08. So the answer is no.
July 11th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Hi Jay,
I have two names which I believe would do well on auction: MysteryPress.com and SpiceCaravan.com. Could you tell me whether these names would be eligible (in particular the three year rule)?
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: Both domains are old. The creation date shows as new within the last year for both names however I can see they were registered years ago. So the answer is they are eligible. Let’s see how they do inside the algorithm.
July 13th, 2007 at 8:40 am
I own several domains, one of which is - mediabeyondlimits.com that i have done nothing with. I just had mediabeyondlimits.com valued over at LeapFish using their online checker and have been told that it’s worth a lot of money - I was surprised… is their system flawed or should i be getting excited?
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: Hate to break it to you, but their system is flawed.
July 13th, 2007 at 11:08 am
I added guninfo.tv and wondered since you are allowing some exceptions to the dot com rule if this might be allowed.
Thanks,
Great site and great approach.
UPDATE BY JAY: GunInfo.tv is not looking good. Sorry.
July 14th, 2007 at 8:22 am
Any news on when the first Current Domain List will be up?
UPDATE BY JAY: Monday 22nd of July.
July 14th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Hi Jay,
I’ve submitted a bunch of domains for the auction and now I’m going through and deleting the ones that are less than 3 years old. Does this make the process easier for you or can the system kick them out automatically? I’m looking each one up by hand now but if I don’t need to do this I will stop.
Thanks,
Chuck
UPDATE BY JAY: The system can handle it. You don’t need to help it but thanks.
July 14th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
“I have bunch of names related to the main name that i am willing to offer as part of the same auction.
[..]
UPDATE BY JAY: This is coming on Monday or Tuesday.”
But you didn’t say which Monday or Tuesday… >;-p
UPDATE BY JAY: This feature is complete and active.
July 15th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
The remove function was working for me, so I submitted a name that I had transfered to a partner just to see how it scored, and to talk him into submitting some names. Now I cannot remove it, and I don’t want you to think I was trying to ge tby with something. Please help.
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: Looks like it worked for you. We must have fixed it.
July 15th, 2007 at 4:43 pm
Got it deleted,
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: Good to hear.
July 17th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
I entered a short list of domains and clicked on Submit Domains. The button grayed out but I’ve been waiting a half hour and nothing has happened. Is there a problem with submissions today?
UPDATE BY JAY: We have updated the submission process. A bug was introduced. It should be correctly shortly.
July 17th, 2007 at 12:21 pm
Is the lot submit function working yet? I entered a main lot name, and then entered some names within the lot, but they don’t show up when I click on the ‘+’ button next to the lot name. Thanks.
UPDATE BY JAY: Just answered that below.
July 17th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
sunroofgm, I can’t seem to create a lot name or submit a list of names. I guess I’m too dumb to use the forum.
UPDATE BY JAY: The Lots are new. We should have this system working correctly in a few hours.
July 17th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Jay, I think the new system is great. Only thing is, when I attempt to change the price for a lot, the price reverts back to the single domain price that I had before. Please check it out.
UPDATE BY JAY: Should be all fixed.
July 17th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
When will you choose the domains that will go to auction? Will this be posted online? Thank you!
UPDATE BY JAY: We will be posting soft results later this week. Keep in mind we have a few weeks left to take submissions.
July 18th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
Jay,
Contract question - what’s to prevent a seller from refusing to transfer the name if it is put up for auction? I know this happened for at least on big nice name recently. Good luck with the auction!
UPDATE BY JAY: High Reserve Domains have signed contracts.
July 18th, 2007 at 5:13 pm
The lot function seems to be working fine, except for the problem mentioned above. I can’t change the lot price either. I entered a lot of 51 Long Island related names, and they were still all there after I left and came back. I think lots of related domains should do well at auction. Its cheaper and more efficient for both the buyer and the seller.
UPDATE BY JAY: Yes Lots should be working a lot better. We will have the price changing function working in a few hours. Thanks for your patients.
July 18th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
I’m sure you guys are swamped… My domain, gastronomy.com, is still ‘pending review’ after more than a week. Have I got the wrong membership type (free)? How do we get notified if we make the cut or not?
UPDATE BY JAY: Nope you are fine. Everyone is pending review right now. We are releasing some stats on submissions in a few minutes here (6pm 7/19/2007). We are going through the lists and checking everything twice. There is a lot of great names on the list.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
This one is just an interesting phrase.
spikedpunch.com
Do you think its viable? If it sold for 1200 I’d probably be better off holding on.
Thanks
UPDATE BY JAY: Spiked Punch is worth while. Let’s see if it makes the cut.
July 21st, 2007 at 3:20 pm
What’s the rationale for the 3-year old rule?
UPDATE BY JAY: The best domains were registered a while ago. Newer domains are not worth as much as a general rule.
July 21st, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Hi Jay, I submitted a 6 year old .com name on the 12th, but the current status shows it as “unconfirmed” and the Auction Note as “pending review”.
Does this mean that the domain hasn’t be valued by the DomainTools staff yet? It says the score is 671, but I can’t tell if that’s the algorithm or if it didn’t make the cut.
UPDATE BY JAY: We have not released the preliminary results yet. So it should still say Pending for right now.
July 21st, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Regarding the age of domains.
I have several great asian geographic names created on 14 August, 2004. Do they qualify? They turn three years old one day before the auction!
Do I have a foot in the door?
UPDATE BY JAY: There is a lot of great stuff in the wings. Cross your fingers. But it doesn’t look good for most new names right now.
July 21st, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Again on the 3 year rule, I just need clarification. Under your rules can I submit a domain that becomes 3 years old on 14 August?
UPDATE BY JAY: Yes, technically you can submit the domain.
July 21st, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Jay,
I submitted mfb.com my domain since 1995 (MFB are my initials) Do you think it will make the auction? Being in your auction would be a great way to celebrate my retirement of the domain and my realty business.
Thanks for the excitement.
Malcolm
UPDATE BY JAY: I think it would make the auction. However the reserve of $25K looks too high for a three letter domain.
The Reserve should be set so that multiple bidders want to go after the domain. By setting the first bid at close to or above a retail price the domain will not sell. So it will not be picked to be in the auction if the reserve stays that high.
July 22nd, 2007 at 2:35 pm
Hello
I just found out about the auction, and submitted a list of good names this weekend. Is it too late for them to be considered?
Thank you,
Dale
UPDATE BY JAY: It is not too late. We will be accepting names for a while.
July 22nd, 2007 at 7:36 pm
What is the cut-off for submissions? I’ve got some but just came across this now and I am heading out on business for a week. Will it be too late to submit by Sat/Sun (7.28/7.29)? Thanks, Anthony
UPDATE BY JAY: It is not too late. We will be accepting names for a while.
July 22nd, 2007 at 10:40 pm
Thanks Jay. I lowered reserve for mfb.com to $100 less than the average of 3 free online appraisals. Thanks for your advise. Hopefully this will make sure it will be invited to the Domain Roundtable Auction P A R T Y !!! Malcolm
July 23rd, 2007 at 3:53 pm
We have a domain (hearings.com)that was originally registered in 1997 and it was dropped because the owner failed to renew it on time. Also, the current google rank of the domain is 5/10. Now, it has been reregisted again with a new date. Does the new date disqualify the domain name?
Thanks for your feedback
UPDATE BY JAY: Registration of the domain with a newer date will not disqualify the domain. We can tell how old the domain is even without the dates. We have historic records.

Hello Jay,
Can’t get the domain submission to work. I get no response after the short message that submission can take sometime. No results listed, not even a failure.
Any browser or Mac issues you know of? I tried submitting a few times using Safari but it kept crashing. Been using Firefox since.
UPDATE BY JAY: Safari is a known issue. We have not tested our system with it. We have only tested with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Hi Jay,
I upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.5 (Mac) earlier today. Could that be the problem? What versions work for you?
If I keep having browser issues can I try uploading a file with all details.
Thanks

Hi Jay,
I am using internet explorer and I have had the same problem as user openunited stated in comment #68. I am wondering if my domain got submitted, or maybe submitted more than once. I don’t want to keep trying if it is working. But I don’t get any kind of confirmation after the message that it can take some time. Also when I look below the submission box, where it looks like the domain would be listed there is nothing. Also on that same page it does not show the list of 450 names that have made the list so far. I was sure it said they would be listed by Monday. Is there somewhere else I need to go to find the list, or have they not been posted yet.
Thanks

Hi Jay,
I’ve moved over to a PC with IE and still can’t get the submit form to work.
Can I email a list to you with reserve details and notes on the domains?
UPDATE BY JAY: Sure, First you will need to make sure you have a payment option enabled. Second, send me a text file in the format of:
EXAMPLE.COM 1000
EXAMPLE2.COM 2000
EXAMPLE3.COM 1000
EXAMPLE4.COM 3000
Once I get the list, I will use the Bulk Upload Form, The domains will be in your account. Then you can go add notes.
My email is, Jay [at] DomainRoundtable.com
Please only send me a bulk file if you have problems uploading your list. Please use the email address of your registered user at DomainTools.com as well.

Hi Jay,
Is there anything at the member account level that’s stopping me from submitting? Is there something I’ve missed. My payment option (PayPal) and payment agreement with DomainTools was established over 36 hours ago.
UPDATE BY JAY: Please update your phone number. There is a NEW form on the page that collects the phone number of the seller. It says, “Contact Information Required”. Give us your phone number and you should be ready to upload domains.

Hello Jay,
I just discovered your site and am impressed with all you are doing for the upcoming auction.
I have had a domain name for several years that I have recently decided to market. It is a very powerful name and, while I don’t know the exact value, I will want to set a reserve of at least 5 million dollars.
My question is do you think you will have bidders at this auction who are in a league to afford this, or should I try to find a broker to market it for me?
Also – if you think I should sell through a broker, can you please suggest a reputable one?
Thank you
UPDATE BY JAY: Yes, we have the bidder that can afford that. They buy million dollar domains all the time. If you have a killer name then feel free to submit it. I have to warn you, I have not seen too many five million dollar domains.

jay- when are you going to release a lsit of contenders for the auction. it would help set an example for us newbies. thank you

what does my rank of 696 mean ?
July 26th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
Hmmm…what a way to get depressed! Only 3%? With apparently 800’s out there my 700’s and 600’s probably won’t make the cut. All of mine are 8-10 years old though, hopefully that will help get them in?!?!

Hello,
we have a domain name that we purchased and eventhough the score is 700, it got denied because it says ‘it’s too new’. however, this domain was registered in 2003 and we purchased it from that same owner. Is there anything that can be done?
thanks,
Michael

Thanks

Hello,

CompraloYa.com (Buyitnow.com)
Thanks

I would like to try the auction, but don’t know much about it. Is there a fee to list my domain name (if it is among the chosen domains)? Why would you need my paypal info? Can I include or exclude my inventory to United States buyers only? Do I have to include the site design? It isn’t really great, but functional.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I just submitted a domain. When/how do I find out if it’s been approved?
Tnx.

I submitted 4y5.com about 1- 2 weeks ago and it still says pending review. I only have $1,000 reserve. I haven’t seen many 3 character domains in your list of 450.
I’ve had it appraised 3 differnet times and they range from $23,000 and up. One was at $87,000. So I was wondering what determines who gets in the 450 list?
Also wanted to say great job with all your doing for this conference.
UPDATE BY JAY: I would not appraise the domain that high. I think this domain is overvalued and would not sell.

I submitted QuizGames.com today August 6. I hope it’s not to late since this was the deadline. The name was regged in 1999 so age shouldn’t be any problem. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding my Reserve price, dont hesitate to ask. Thank You for your time!

I noticed that the text in the “User Note” got cut off. Only the first sentence was included. How can i upload the complete User Note Text?
Full User Note Below:
You are bidding on a Highly Brandable Domain. People love Quizzes. QuizGames.com is a Great name for all kinds of Quiz Games and Quiz Shows like: Trivial Pursuit, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Jeopardy. Also for Online Quizzes and tests like Personality Quiz, Love Quiz, Relationship Quiz, Trivia Quiz e.t.c. Monthly averages: 350 unique visitors, Earns on average $20.00 in PPC /Month. Has over 71% CTR. Registered continuously for the past 8 years. I’m reluctant to sell this name, I’m doing so only because I need to fund a web project. This is the only time I will offer this name in an auction. If you want to launch a Quiz Site you must Act Now! Because QuizGames.com is the perfect Quiz Domain.
UPDATE BY JAY: We limit people to 255 characters. So please trim the post.
BTW, You are trying to sell the domain for for 104 Years revenue. That seems a bit high.
August 6th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
I have a couple domains (rated above 700) that I recently purchased, but the transfers haven’t completed yet. Should I remove them from the list, or wait a couple days for them to complete ?
August 6th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
hey just wondering if my doamins : sexymuch.com and dollarmuch.com can make it to your great auction. i want to make my family out of poverty. thanks
August 7th, 2007 at 1:50 am
Thank for the feedback Jay!
User Note has been trimmed. Regarding the Reserve, If you only take into account the yearly revenue then YES $25.000 is a bit high. But then again… even a minimum $5.000 Reserve (20 Year Multiple) will still “seem” a bit high! Having said that, my reserve is not based on revenue/year. I’m not selling it as a high traffic domain. The reserve reflects the Powerfull Branding Potential and the two strong keywords “Quiz” & “Games”. Quiz Games gets over 40 Million Search Results in Google.
I have lowered the reserve to $20.000 as a gesture of my good will. However… If i would go ahead and set the reserve to the minimum $1.000 in order to maximize the odds for making it into the auction as so often is recommended, i could in theory recive lots of bids and in the end selling it for more than $20k. But from personal experience with other high profile domain auctions. I have learned the hard way that as a seller, i MUST Assume that my domain will only receive one bid thus selling for the minimum reserve. And therefore i need to set a reserve price that wont make me cry. And if this means that no one will bid on my name… So be it. In the end a domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It’s the eternal debate of setting the reserve to high or to low… I say… Let The Market decide!
To clarify, I dont say that it’s ok to set reserves that is Sky-High as many dreamers tend to do. Nor am i saying that you should set it to Rock-Bottom. Put it as reasonable as you can, and for this name $20k is a price i can live with if it gets sold. If the market says NO, then NO is NO.
Anyways, Great Work setting up this auction! I wish you guys all the success!
Cheers

I`m noticing some domains that are NOT .com and are NOT older than 3 years.
For example:
Poker.in
Why is this happening?
August 7th, 2007 at 5:42 am
Also, could anyone tell ,e how much does it cost to submit any domain for the auction? Why do you ask a payment option? Should not be free?
Thanks
August 7th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
I’m a few hours late on submitting:
UKVISAS.COM Any chance you can squeeze this great domain in before the auction?
Thanks
August 8th, 2007 at 5:28 am
I am disappointed to find that the list was closed without Review of all Entries…. and the Finished List includes entries that blatantly defy the few Rules posted.
Makes one wonder what other improprieties there are that we can’t see….
UPDATE BY JAY: To suggest we are running this badly is very strong. We are the most transparent auction. Period. You can see what is going on. As far as I know we are following the rules. If you have an example of a domain that is outside of the rules, please let me know. I have already confirmed that domains less then 3 year old need to have an original registration date older then 3 years except if the TLD didn’t exist three years ago.
August 8th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Hi Jay,
On your website I read “..and have your domain certified by our staff”.
It is not clear to me if certification is done automatically by your staff or if I should give you a signal if I am ready adding my domains to the list, up for auction.
Thanks for clearing this out.
UPDATE BY JAY: The process is already closed. But we review every domain.
August 9th, 2007 at 8:07 am
So eventhough our domains say “Pending Review”, you mean the process is closed and those won’t be reviewed? If so, can i ask how the list was finalized without reviewing the domains?
thanks,
Michael
UPDATE BY JAY: Michael did review the domains. We just didn’t change the status on them. We read through the lists but we have not been explicitly hitting declined on domains.
August 10th, 2007 at 7:21 am
Thanks Jay,
Question i have; i have added some new names last week. i believe is much better than many of the names currently on the list (personal opinion). Is there anyway that you could please take a look at the list I have now?
thanks a bunch
Michael
UPDATE BY JAY: We have cut off submissions. We are not looking at new ones.
August 10th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
I want to submit my group of domains MATCHSPOT domains(MatchSpot.com, .net, .org, .eu, .name, .info, .co.uk, .biz) but it won’t allow me to set an appropriate reserve. Will you still consider such a lot for the auction? Thanks!
~ Lester ~
UPDATE BY JAY: Lester, you will need to wait for the next auction.
August 17th, 2007 at 6:46 am
I still want to know how a “Score” is calculated. Can you provide us a bulk domain score script so that we can pre-filtered our own domains before submitting?
