RegisterFly strikes a deal with GoDaddy?

ICANN just announced that a mysterious registrar that is yet to be identified may be buying RegisterFly’s customers. We are trying to put it all together and figure out the mystery company. I just don’t see how anyone would buy the company with the amount of liability it has so the deal would be for the assets rather then the whole company. We have talked to a few unnamed sources and they tell us the unnamed registrar is GoDaddy. When I asked GoDaddy for comment they said they could not comment at this time but confirmed anyone would be stupid to buy the whole company. However, four independent sources that all wished to remain confidential said they thought it was GoDaddy as well.
This would be good news for customers of RegisterFly. Customers have been very angry about the melt down and have been demanding action. This announcement brings us one step closer to resolution of this matter. RegisterFly customers may wake up next week to an email from Bob Parsons welcoming them to his customer base.
Perhaps Kevin Medina will have enough money to pay off the lawsuits if he strikes a deal to sell his customers. This is a much better deal for him than having his customers torn away from his company. Kevin has a lot of hosting customers as well, so I think this is one of the reasons I think ICANN finds it so hard to tear customers away. They are completely at the mercy of Kevin Medina.
Here is the offical ICANN announcement:
ICANN has been advised of a deal to transfer all names in RegisterFly’s management from RegisterFly to an existing accredited Registrar with a demonstrated record of customer service. This would be a quick and effective solution to many of the problems that registrants are presently experiencing with RegisterFly. The deal, which has been confirmed with the registrar, is a commercial transaction (where the acquiring registrar has worked out a financial arrangement to take over names managed by RegisterFly).
In order to make the transfer happen, all data must be provided to the acquiring registrar by RegisterFly. We have been informed that most of the data has been now made available. Final steps are underway to effect the full transfer of information which should be completed next week, with an announcement by the acquiring registrar to be made at that time.
In related news, US Federal District Court Judge Real has compelled the personal appearance of Kevin Medina before the court on Friday, 25 May 2007 to show cause why RegisterFly should not again be held in contempt of court and be further sanctioned. Kevin Medina has not so far appeared personally in this matter. ICANN will appear, and has reserved the right to take additional action before that time pursuant to the court’s orders, particularly if the RegisterFly transfer falls off the schedule outlined above.
We will continue to update you as new information becomes available. We understand how difficult these circumstances are and will continue to concentrate on getting the best possible outcome we can for registrants.

Godaddy has done a good job marketing themselves out from the html box and into the real world.
However, they have thier faults. It seems as per thier terms of service, they can own an expired domain 18 days past expiry. after a few thousand renews and transfers, I have allways thought there was a 45 day grace period. After 20 days my error, my former domain was pushed, renewed to another GD account that won a 2 week auction, with my same expiry date + 1 year, as opposed to a normal “new registration” reflecting a 45 day expiration. It was for my wife starting her own business. Even today it is for sale for $200 I wont feed into thier nonsence.
I hope Godaddy, the AOL of registrars dont profit from this mess.

Registerfly put my hosting business through a slow death. Now they are causing me more stress having my domains caught up their. I hope everyone involved gets there fair dues when all is said an done. If this clown Medina does not go to jail we are going to see a huge increase in Internet crime. Make an example of this son of a ….!

This is certainly frightening. Two posters claiming control of thousands of domains and/or renewals, as well as hosting, can’t figure out how to spell their or when to use it correctly. Really people, all it takes is a few more seconds to read what you wrote (or is it writ?)

I see that OCD is on the rise. I am sorry that I have rented space in your head enough for you to post your frustration. If you wish donate your time to solve the worlds problems, I would think that THEIR are bigger fish to fry than to correct our grammar in our posts. I would suggest that we stick to the topic at hand.
Nofuel makes a very good point. evidently, kevin has not met much deterance to have gone this far. The criminal world and defence attorneys are carefully taking notes as they see crime in full swing that will go unchecked by ICANN.
I still think we should kidnap dognap? kevins chihuahua until we get our stolen domains back. I wouldnt be surprised if it was abused by him or his boyfriend.

I have over 180 domains with Registerfly. I let one go a few days over the limit a few months ago and they stole it from me… it was not even 30 days over. It ‘s now carrying crappy ads and has a for sale sign on it. Registerfly and Medina are just thieving ars*holes.

Like many who had been using RegisterFly I have lost a number of domains. However, I am pretty annoyed about the way eNom holds onto domains for a further year, sometimes displaying adverts, while showing the original registrant’s details, as if that person was responsible for their blasted ads.
eNom is bottom of the pile, IMO, just above RegisterFly, and some GoDaddy (aka Wild West Domains) resellers – one of whom has been grabbing domains and is making life a pain – esp when grabbing such domains as that of a local family – after all, what use if family.info
to some hosting / domain registration firm (ZusCom.com
)

hmmm…. so does that mean that GoDaddy will pay Sago Networks the $15k+ that RegisterFly owes them — just so GoDaddy will have access to RegisterFly’s hosting related servers?
The only servers that were ever moved to The Planet, when John had a short live take over, were the email related servers – that’s it.
We’ll see…

domainssc is regards to your comment. Your right the grace period USED to be 45 days. However when GoDaddy introduced “The Domain Name Aftermarket” (TDNAM.Com
) They changed the grace period from 45 days to 18 days. If you fail to renew the domains they go up for public auction at TDNAM. I have a few hundred domains and I got a ton of emails from GoDaddy a couple of years ago in regards to the change. True, GoDaddy has there faults, but they are by far the best registrar we have available.
